Additional Aquarium Information

What do you think are the keys to your success in reefing?
Patience
I have to ask if Flotsam and Jetsam are named after the band or the marine debris? Either way those are the bwst fish names ever!
Actually after Ursula’s henchmen in The little Mermaid lol.

My two are an orchid dottyback and a yellow watchman goby.

Lol so far so good on that, but you never know
We had a few beads. First time doctor. 2nd time me with tweezers and flashlight. You learn so much. Even had to buy a stethoscope and report to doctor early since someone cried too much.

I may not leave. Covid I was here during shutdown and was backing the car up while the girls loaded kegs into the back of the car 😁

Now I want a yummy fresh pretzel with mustard... that looks so good!
While staring at your tube Anenome? If you can view video.

We need to turn that scene into a music video.

Sideshow Bob and Selma seem fine. No sighting of Flotsam or Jetsam but that’s pretty normal. Nems all closed, even the rock flowers. The bubbles have moved about on the rock, one going inside a large crevice. I think today when the salt gets here I’m going to pull about two gallons and replace with some fresh mixed to 1.023. Should bump it up just a hair. That shouldn’t be too much, in a 70 gallon system, right? In any case the sump is over full so I need to pull some out anyhow.
Your 70 gallon probably has around 56 gallons of water so 2 gallons would be somewhere around 3.5 percent of the water volume. I would make the new mix at 1.026 or maybe even 1.030. It will barely move the needle on your refractometer but you want to take it up slowly. Keep your ATO off and use sw mix for any top off needed until you are close to your target. Maybe do a two gallon/day wc to help inch it along but if you are using sw as top off it should only take a few days. I think you said you were normally running 1.022 correct?

Yes it was low to begin with due to running out of salt and not able to get more, and the skimmer doing what skimmers do. I had planned to raise it slowly to the proper level, but now it’ll take a little longer.

Bev,

I just saw the before and after shots of your sump. To speed things along a little bit I would go ahead and discard enough water from your sump to get it down to its normal 'full' line. No sense wasting time evaporating excess water. Then the small water changes and using sw for top off will get you there fairly quickly but slowly enough to not overly stress your livestock. Don't worry too much if all of your nems/softies/shrooms/LPS look stressed. They have to deflate/reflate to obtain equilibrium with the surrounding water.

Good luck.

This is a perfect time to get your sg back where you want it. Just keep doing the same thing until you hit your target.

I just spent the whole morning 'discussing' with the company that installed the new telephones at our Parish why they felt they needed full admin access to our network. It took a long time but they now will work within the confines of their domain.

Need a little 'old timey rock to clear my head:
