I am super glad I read that last sentence, Tom. I was 100% getting a green one. I cant have any coral nippers in my tank though.

They tend to like to sit in the branches of SPS which can irritate them and I've had yellow and black clowns that nipped at polyps on acros before. A few years ago there was a YouTuber from Canada that had small to medium sized tanks and documented them heavily. He had a few episodes of his 'demon' fish in a small tank. It just kept nipping at all the corals. I don't remember his channel and I think he stopped posting to the channel a few years ago. He had a bunch of videos of his cute little Yellow Clown Goby happily munching on polyps while relaxing in the branches. I've also heard they munch on the coral mucus, which is probably true.

I was just re-reading this to make sure it kind of makes sense, I have been dropping characters a lot on this new-ish PC and it occurred to me that the damaged polyps were probably an artifact of the mucus munching since I never saw one go after an LPS.

Yesterday I started smelling a fish odor from the tank. smelled it more today and the lobo has been receding over the past several days. I pulled it up and it was it. I think it was decaying from the inside out.

In general they aren't jumpers, once settled in, but like most fish are completely capable of launch mode when 'required' whether that be actual or only in their imagination. Completely securing a lid is almost impossible. They can find a way through the smallest of openings and seem to always know right where the openings are. I had my Yellow Wrasse go through the slits in my cover that I swear are thinner than the fish, twice in a week.

BTW Clown Gobies, especially the okinawae, are among my favorite fish. They can irritate, or even nip at SPS though.

I've only seen them irritating SPS. I had one in a lagoon tank that perched in a Gorgonian and it never nipped the Gorgonian but it did nip at the monti digitatas, caps and acros. Not a lot but enough that the corals didn't care for it. in a fairly large tank with a lot of coral it will probably only bother one or two corals but in a small tank there isn't much real estate to spread around its snacking habit.

--edit-- I should say I never saw it nip the Gorgonian, of course the Gorgonian still didn't like be a recliner.

Honestly, I have no idea what you’re doing. I don’t think a sump ever got drilled. Only tank above. But like I said I’m not sure what you’re doing are doing. Last I knew it was drilling a tank for an overflow to the sump.

Your sump being acrylic vs glass is somewhat irrelevant. The sump is a container for water that drains down from the HOB and is then pumped back to the tank by the return pump. As a rule, sumps are usually out of sight, although not always (witness Joel's setup). Glass is less subject to scratches when cleaning, but some folks don't really scrape their sumps. Mine is acrylic. I did drill it, but that is because I switched from internal submersible pumps to an external pump.
