Pending size that’s easy to do. If you are using a preformed pond, build a 2x4 frame box bigger than the pond but same depth. Plywood top and trace out and jigsaw cut the plywood out. Add a few braces. Could do a simple stone wall around it or faux rock panels. Just do all PT. It will freeze in winter though so you need to tub with canister filter in garage to winter the fish.

Could an aquarium heater not keep it from freezing or maybe one of those heaters they use for livestock tanks?

That's pretty cool Jimmy. My wife wants one. I told her we would need to raise it up though, our male Husky would literally eat the fish out of it!

100 gallon stock tank from Tractor supply, 75% is below ground. This keeps it cool in the summer and helps keep it from freezing in the winter. Fish can stay in it year round. It is a still water pond, built to help control mosquitoes. Already see the benefits of controlling mosquitoes. The plants were cheerfully donated by the Chattahoochee river. The plants help control nitrates, these goldfish and soon to add a bunch of guppies are basically feeder fish from the LFS that we gave a better life to. The goldfish can thrive in the colder water in the winter.

When I was a farm kid we put goldfish in the water troughs for mosquito control. We never fed them but they got big and fat anyway.

Yes, absolutely. I had a couple large goldfish in a 350 gallon chemical tote i wintered successfully with 2 300 watt eheim heaters. We hit some pretty cold lows in Utah. Worked, but wasn't very economical.

If it seems happy, it's very possible that you have it in the right spot. I see you made a post about it. Hopefully very soon you'll get some solid answers and you can go back to just enjoying the little dude. Your tank is beautiful btw

We "usually" have mild winters, snow is rare . Put it this way, its rare for my wife's bird bath to freeze
