Could an aquarium heater not keep it from freezing or maybe one of those heaters they use for livestock tanks?

your probably right. they have birdbath ones and are OK to a certain temp. same with water troughs for livestock. I think it's like a floating donut. I think the issue is that the top would freeze and there's no oxygen so they use those to keep a hole melted in the ice.

It attracts them to lay there in the feature then the fish eat them vs then laying in random places and the eggs hatching and turning into mosquitoes. At least I think that's the logic behind it.

I think running/splashing water too. mosquitos I think only like stagnant water.

I pulled up Gaelic Storm on YouTube and have been listening to it in my exam room all morning.
