What do you think are the keys to your success in reefing?
Patience
I think their new instructions say not to mix for more than four hours mixing. I'm not really sure I buy that. I use blue bucket on this tank and if I leave it overnight I just turn off the pump after I know I'm not going to use it that day whether its twenty minutes or eight hours. Then I turn the pump back on and heat the water just before using it. I've never seen an issue though even if I mix it for a couple of days. Like you said Joel, you can just store it with no problem.
I'm glad they changed that Tom.
Next time I use it I'll mix it a bit longer.

For Red Sea Blue Bucket:

I double checked just now on their web site. The new instructions say to mix for 20 minutes to 2 hours but not more than four hours. Then heat and re-check salinity.

Vinyl was out for the most part back then. I don't know that I would actually pay more than maybe fifty bucks for a used album. Vinyl is just too fragile; heat, poorly adjusted or cheap turntable; worn out needle; just plain number of plays; poor cleaning, etc. Seems like a weird market to me. Most of the vintage gear isn't any better than the current gear, a lot of it is much worse. There is some vintage gear worth the price but not much of it. High-end audio was always a little nuts but now it is usurious. 5k for a DAC, what planet do you need to come from to think that 50 bucks worth of hardware can ever be worth 5k?

It's the same as today's coral market. Have some indigenous person scrape a hunk of coral off of a reef and ship it to a distributor. Chop it into 50 pieces (colonies?), if it turns out to be pretty, break a few of the colonies into dozens of sub-pinky-sized frags, slap a fancy name on it and sell them for stupid prices.
Seems I had a bit of a hissy fit. Any collectable's value is contingent only on what someone is willing to pay. I think it is great that vinyl and cassettes, tube amps/preamps and slot cars are all seeing renewed interest.

That was quite a stereo for that time. H.H. Scott was really good. Too bad its gone, with the total insanity of the 'vintage' audio scene that would probably be worth a tank full of money today (2k for a mid-range Thorens turntable, 4-8k for a Nakamichi Dragon?--nuts).

McIntosh was one of those someday brands for me but never got there but HK, great stuff back then. I think HK made the absolute best AV Receivers on the market back in late 90 till 2015 or so. I bought a small Harmon Kardon FM receiver from a professor while in college that I kept for over twenty years. It was small, only maybe 3 inches high, only had phono and tape inputs and was low power, but it had the sweetest sound of any gear I ever owned when paired with some Klipsch bookshelf speakers. It also had a kind of unique (at least I never saw it on another unit) FM section. Instead of a large tuning dial it had five small vertical tuning dials at the right end with push buttons to select which of the five 'presets' you wanted. My first two AV Receivers were also HKs.

I really liked the Yamaha gear but it was very clinical. I originally had the two Yamaha power amps paired to JBL studio monitors but the sound was like dry-toast. Back to Klipsch. I also didn't like Yamaha's tuners and went with Pioneer instead.

Now I just listen to YT on my laptop or if I'm in the mood for Christmas music or a jazz binge I may break open the cd cabinet and pop them in the blue-ray player.
Hopefully you have Bluetooth on you laptop. If so, there are any number of Bluetooth speakers with a decent sound these days. Better than laptop speakers anyway. You can totally upgrade your listening enjoyment at very little expense.

Good morning, all, and happy Sunday!

Sending everyone peaceful and harmonious vibes for your day.

Another full day of things to get done for me followed by having to drive across the state again for work tomorrow.

doesn't it continue to mix when you do a WC? just sounds so odd. don't mix for more than X hours but in the tank the powerhead keep mixing it?

Happy Sunday everyone

This is Blind Guardian. If you’re familiar with metal bands you probably will know who these guys are. For those that don’t. This is a band formed in 1984 and are considered one of the main pioneers for speed metal (fast guitar and higher drum beats) and power metal (characterized by fantasy lyrics, synth/keys, and people belting vocals). This is one of their best songs imo. You get a good length, great vocals, some backing vocals to drive the overall presentation home, and some amazing guitar work.

I’ll bounce around on here from time to time today! Sundays are usually pretty busy for me and I’m in the process of packing up my house for moving so that adds to me being busy, haha

No, no, no! It’s Red Sea and highly engineered. In addition to being super purified sodium chloride, which also contains other good stuff I cannot spell, it can recognize when it is added to an active reef. At this point, it turns off its mixing capabilities and stabilizes. As for what I use? Nothing. I have yet to set my most recent system. However, when I do, rest assured, I will
employ a far inferior salt as I like to live dangerously. I’m just built this way.

I started my cube with Imagitarium and Natures Ocean Salt Water then switched to IO Reef and would occasionally go back and forth with laziness. The big tank I started with HW and never did anything else. I just buy when it's on sale. The HW mixes pretty clean and fast without a haze. Though I'm doing the shake method now. mix directly in storage containers during my RO making day and save till I WC. I've had to come up with easy methods for me to do this. No more hose in the tank either to drain and fill. I found the easiest for me is to just use a 1/2 gal pitcher and a towel to contain drips. 20 pitchers out, then pour from the jugs into the pitcher and 20 back into the tank. only the main pump gets turned off in the process. (takes at most 10 minutes) the powerhead are below the line and don't bother turning heater off. storage water is at room temp of 74 degrees and tank is at 76 so I don't even bother heating it anymore.
