Hey everyone! excited to be getting into the salt water hobby. I’ll be posting pictures throughout my build.

I’m going to be moving my tank into its own fish room against the partitioned wall and cutting out a picture frame so it’s visible in my living area.

It’s up against the wall near a window also directly under a vent. I can’t get to the backside of the tank to clean the glass and the heat from the vent changes the water temperature whenever my furnace kicks in. I could close the vent but I’d rather just move the tank into its permanent spot.

Once I get it moved to the appropriate spot I’ll remove the canopy and hang lights from the ceiling in the fish room.

Currently running a fluval 405 for filteration but plan on getting a sump system. I run water changes regularly.

One wave maker but plan on getting a couple more and hooking up to a controller.

I have an RO system. I’ve prepared a line equipped with a shut off valve ( in case I need to work on the line) which will feed my RO machine. From my RO machine il gonna have drinkable water that’s a bit more alkalized and also will be producing RO for the tank.

I plan on having an top off valve directly into the tank as well as from my pre mixed 55 gallons so It’s easier to move water.

Here are some more pictures of my tank it’s already cycled and has been up for few months.

Any replies or comments are greatly appreciated. I’m a noob at the hobby figured this would be a great place to document my journey as well as gain knowledge.

Thanks everyone.

They’re not secured but I have nothing in there that might move them. No inverts yet. Going to use acrylic rods once I set the tank in it’s permanent place which hopefully is this weekend. I hear some people use them and drill holes to create an aquascape.

Any suggestions on what to use to secure the rocks ?

Welcome to reef2reef! Look into adding a DI to your RO unit. It’s pretty much a necessity if your looking for long term success. I like your scape a lot! Looks so natural!

He’s claimed the structure cave all to himself because the chromis don’t swim in and out of the rock cave just around it.

His colours are great and he’s already hard at work cleaning his new home. He seems to love it. The structure provides tons of caves, ins and outs he’s already mapping the area out.

Just an update on the tank..

So I got into the habit of making sure I observe my fish each morning to make sure they’re still alive. I noticed one of the chromis had lost 2 scales. Initially I thought maybe they’d fought with each other or rubbed up against a rock. I kept an eye out and about a day later I noticed red colour start to fill where the scale had been missing. Figured it was signs of uronema from doing a bit of research on the chromis.

I pulled them out of my tank and put them in a qt. Contacted my lfs and asked if I could return them for store credit. He was ok with that so solid on his part.

He said it could be because of fighting. He said chromis tend to fight with each other.

They were all eating so they had a good appetite. I didn’t want to take the chance so like I said I pulled them out and put them into a qt and returned them.

Hopefully my tang didn’t catch anything. He’s really loving the tank. He eats a lot and is showing great colours. He’s very active too.

I basically got this guy eating nori seaweed. It’s on a clip, there for his disposal whenever he wants.

I also made a mixture of the following;

Shrimp
Broccoli
Spirulina
Minced garlic

And I mixed that all in a blender and then froze it in a block. I chop off a bit with a clever when I need some for feeding. I let it thaw out in a cup for 10 minutes.

He loves it.

One of my dogs loves to sit by the tank and inspect him lol.

I’m really happy with this guy so far.

Here’s a picture I found online of a similar brown powder tang.

I’m wondering if my tang will get the red with age?

I’m adding a 75 gallon. I seen an add on kijiji the price was good.

Came with the following;

75 gallon
Sump
Protein skimmer
Pump
4 power heads
About 100 lbs of rock maybe more.
testing kit
Heater
2 lighting fixtures

Apparently the lady had a tank failure. Everything died. She needed everything out. So I bought it. Need to make a stand for it still.

I’ll use the lights until I upgrade to LED

Some of the stuff is older like the sump and skimmer but it works I thought it was a good deal.

The rocks I’m going to have to cure. So might take a couple months before I get some rock in this new tank.

I’ve decided to reframe my wall and have a picture frame in my living area of the tank. And the back part exposed in the fish room. I’m going to frame a stand right into the wall and back a bench that runs around the inside peninsula so I can stand on when working on it.

Hopefully I get the framing finished this weekend when I have some time.
