What would everyone recommend for lighting on a 40 gallon breeder? Will want to keep mostly softies and lps. Prefer not to go the black box method. Preferably someone that has a tank that’s done really well under the lighting they recommend

ATI Sunpower 36" 6 bulb non-dimmable fixture.
You will grow anything you want extremely healthy and colorful!
Best easiest solution in the long run. The fixture will last your life time.
Change the bulbs every 12 months.
Your corals will love you forever!

You will get 100 different answers to this question. I LOVE 40 breeders and have had great success with a pair of AI Hydra 26HD over my previous 40b. I am now using a pair of Nicrew Hyper Reef 100W LED's with a Kessil Spectral Controller X and my corals and anemones couldn't be happier. MUCH cheaper than the Hyrdas, but great results!

For some reason wasn't getting notifications for this post. I have the hyperreefs currently on another tank. Waiting to see what kinda growth I get.

I can say that I got some frags, put them on the frag rack, and 2 weeks later when I went to move them to the rocks, several were already encrusted onto the frag rack. I am really impressed with them!

What setting you running? And are you using the controller?

40B's are great but they are just long enough that you probably need to run T5's or a pair of led lights. I think a pair of AI Primes would work well and you can buy them used for a pretty reasonable price. BRS has some good video's about lighting you may want to check out.
