I'm trying to set up a 40g breeder for my 100g tank and im having trouble figuring out how to do it, I was hoping you experience people could help. Here's what I'm looking g for
1 reefmat 500, skimmer, refugium, 2 sicce 3.5.
Hiw would you setup the sump If it was you?
I'd like a decently large refugium if possible
Also, what sizes would the baffles be?
I was considering building a sump like the MD elite where the refugium is on the opposite side of the sump from the reefmat. So 4 compartments in this order from L to R.
1. Reefmat that flows into:
2. Skimmer with room for reactors that flows into:
3. Return compartment that returns to the display.
4. Refugium that overflows over a high baffle left into compartment 3 for return to display.
This way the refugium can be as high as the sump allows.
The main issue is thay you'd need to account in your plumbing for 2 inlets. I was considering running a T split to divert water.
Issues I see is ensure proper flow to each side. Ideally id like to set it up so that a majority of the draining water from my display goes to the reefmat and something like a third or quarter of water goes to the refugium. Also it limits how much of the total overflow is going through the main filtration. So perhaps id need to get wider plumbing and higher flow pumps to increase the water turnover to more ideal amounts.
I havent done this yet nor done a ton of research on it but curious if anyone else has ideas, thoughts, or concerns about this setup.
I attached a photo for reference. To me it looks like this setup pictured as needs another baffle between the refugium and the return compartments with aqua mesh in for bubble mitigation.
