The advertised wattage of the fixture is based upon the number of leds. They use a 3 watt led, so the 165 watt light is 55 leds and the 300 watt fixture is 100 leds. I don’t believe there is any chance they would make a bigger feature with more leds and not advertise it as a higher wattage fixture.
I was wrong. The biggest vipar was 300w and 32”.

The 48” blackbox led I was thinking of was evergrow and I forget what they claimed the watts was. This was 2013-2015 ish

They currently "imply" "352W" for the 48" model "suitable for a 5ft tank" 88 leds

"The IT50 series are designed to be used with any Coral, saving costs on other types of lighting."

EVERGROW, not Viparspectra.. a bit o/t..
Technical Information

  • Programmable 240 watt Full Spectrum LED aquarium lights
  • Suitable for tanks 124cm to 159cm (4.06ft to 5.21ft)
  • Slimline
  • 6 Channel
  • LCD Display on the remote control
  • Mixing 3w and 5w LEDs (88 LEDs)
  • Remote Control within 5 meters
  • 90 degree high grade lenses (output 120 degree)
  • Wide Voltage design (AC85-264V )
  • Special LED configurations for different coral growth
  • Operating frequency 50Hz/60Hz
  • Cree, Osram and Semi LEDs
Color ratio
  • Hyper Red: 4 Osram (3W)
  • Green: 4 Cree XPE (3W)
  • Deep Blue: 24 Cree XTE (5W)
  • Cool White: 20 Cree XTE (5W)
  • Blue: 16 Cree XPE (3W)
  • Indigo: 12 SemiLEDS (3W)
  • UV: 8 SemiLEDS (3W)
44 @ "3w" + 44 @ "5W" = 352"W"
But ACTUALLY 240 WATTS

32" 288"W".. "suitable for a 4ft tank". Same fuzzy logic applies.. 230 real watts

Yea they spec wattage by led total watts not by power draw. They underdrive them

Regardless of watts they put out a lot of par

The 32” especially. I remember doing the math and the 32” is like 90% of the leds from the 48”, but in 75% if the space

36 5W + 36 3w (72 leds)
Yea that's weird....The real to fake ratio is a lot better.. ;) .8 vs .68

The 90 degree tight lenses added a lot of punch to all these type of lights.

Do it as watts (real or fake) per 12”

The 32 is stronger per foot than the 48

The par charts from reefbreeder confirms it also. The 32 puts out higher numbers

Then there is the weird 50” model which I think is the same as the 48 but spaced out a little more

Yes I got it and it is Viparspectra. It's only 31 inches wide but its light spread covers my 48 inch wide 90 gallon tank better than I thought it would. It has a built-in timer which I like, and I'm trying to find a remote for it, overall in happy.

Why would reef reefers have any? Was there some relationship between the two companies?

I’ve always heard positive things about viparspectra’s customer support. I’d guess they’d likely send a free one, or sell one for cheap.
