Hello

I have two 6040’s that I can not get to work with my Hydros wave Engine. I’ve had the two pumps for some time with no issues. Just got the WE for Christmas and can’t get them to play nice. I have been working with Carlos from CoralVue. He is thinking it might be an issue on the Tunze side. I can not get the pumps to run at all. It will only twitch every 20 secs or so.

Do the same with speed 0% to 100%. On the 6040 side make sure to select external control. Turn up all the knob on tunze controller to max. Do not have the Coralvue system. Have a external tunze controller and mine will not run at the 30% setting. Just taking a stab at the issue. Hope you figure it out.

0-6.5V is correct. As Nateaqua said, make sure the 6040 is set to external control and make sure that the max speed is set to 100% and pulse is off to avoid any interference issue with the controller settings. Usually at least on other controllers, these issues are due to a loose cable connection at the 7090, make sure it is firmly pressed in. For example, with the Apex cable, the DIN connector they use the boot often needs to be pulled back or trimmed to allow it to insert fully and make good contact. I am not familiar with the Hydros, but I know they got a sample 6055 from us for testing and the pin outs and voltage control are the same. It is possible there is an issue with the DIN port on the 7090, but this would be rare and 2 pumps would be fairly unlikely. They do need there own power supply, it should be part 5012.010

Hey Roger, I trimmed the boot on the connector and it does seat better. However it is still not working. I set the pulse to 0 and the power to 100%. all I get is a twitch every 20 sec or so.

The confusion is that your voltage range needs to be set to 3-10v. It is the voltage to the tunze that needs to be at 30% minimum. I used to control these directly with my apex. They will not come on until you give them at least 3 volts (ie 30%).

The strange thing is this twitching indicates it is in fishcare mode, so it is basically on and paused. Have you tried setting a higher speed on the Hydros, for example 60%-100%? If you disconnect the cable from the 7090 and set it back to pulse, does the pump itself work?

I tried this as well with the same result

In the WE you have an option to run the pump on max setting or min settings and I get the same twitching either way. Since I've been running these (two 6040's) for a few month I have the 70962.300 cable and I'm able to slave them to each other and they work as expected. The pumps also work fine individually.

If they work slaved that means the port works and the pumps/controller work. My hunch is it is an issue in the cable.

that's my thinking as well. I can dig out my volt meter and test voltage at the cable ends. Would you be able to tell me which pins should read what?

I would just test continuity, only pins 2 and 3 are used, basically the middle pin and the top right pin if you have the pins on the bottom when looking at it.

Sort of, so I confused myself and was looking at the socket pin out, you want the pin all the way on the left, not the right.

Not sure if you've seen the cable they user but one side is the 5 pin tunze style connector (not sure what the correct name is for it) and on the other is a standard female audio connector. The lower line on the audio connector is not connected to any of the 5 pins. The middle line has connectivity to the pin on the far left on the 5 pin connector. lastly, the tip of the audio connector has connectivity to the middle pin of the 5 pin connector. So now the question is, is this the correct orientation on the audio connector.

Unfortunately, that I do not know, our connector is called a 5 pin DIN connector. I have seen the connection they use online, but I have not used one.

I have a ticket going with Carlos. I'll let you know what our findings are. Thx again for all the help. You and Carlos are great!
