I get it. I have some gnarly flow. Partly why I wanted no sand. I also wanted to encrust corals on the bottom.

I do see an issue with disturbing the sand in the sump or dealing with nutrient build up. But I am struggling with nutrients and paying for additives.

Was going to just add rock. But had the sand and figured why not.
IMO, You still need to add rock. The sump sand advice wasn't an either/or. The sand is currently inert. until you get nutrients in there that support an Expanding bacterial colonization, it will stay mostly that way.

I have a semi tentative meet with J. Fishy. In 2 weeks ish. He's a busy man.

But if not I am off all next week. Could go lfs. Frank is 7.5 hours that's an out and back rough one.

Trying to get nutrients up.

Might just need to go to the lfs to get like 6 or so more fish going

The auto dosing is pretty pogchamp
Not gonna lie, it's been worth it to see the enthusiasm come back to you, rather than the dread and frustration your posts were tinged with.

Now that I have some dosing a lines added I really need to clean this act up.

Also now that there's sand in the sump I need to make a stand for the skimmer. It has like 1 pebble of sand in it. Probably just need a small piece of acrylic or egg crate.

So after adding sand there was cloudy water that cleared up in roughly 2 hours. The tank has a coat of dust. On the algae, dinos etc.

The water quality is crystal clear and the corals are looking good for a change.

Something to it? Was looking into exploring diy coral snow as an additive in the future. Similar concept? Idk

The sand should be inert..

Did you wash the sand before dumping? After adding 80lb into the display, back filling around the rock, I could still see down the length of the tank.

Skimmer stand complete. No longer is it sucking sand and grinding .

Had to adjust sump water level a little so it stopped sucking air. They should put an elbow on the end to adjust the height of the ventiri

Pretty happy with how it turned out.
