I have a 75 gallon aquarium(40’ by 24’ by 20’). I have a fish list which I have done a lot of research on. However, I would like to know if there are any compatibility problems that I am unaware of as well as possible better alternatives. Any recommendations or words of advise are much appreciated!

  • Tomini tang
  • Biota Court Jester Goby
  • Orange Clown Goby
  • Biota Royal gramma
  • Pair of Bella Sleeper Gobies
  • Bicolor Blenny
  • Tailspot Blenny
  • Yasha Goby and Candy cane/ Randall’s pistol shrimp pair
  • Pink streak wrasse
  • Yellow Canary Wrasse(Coris)
  • ORA Azure Damselfish
  • Pintail Fairy wrasse
  • Naoko Fairy wrasse
  • Biota Multibar Angelfish
  • Purple tilefish
  • Fathead Sunburst Anthia
Has anyone had any experiences with Purple Tilefish and Fathead Sunburst Anthias? I’m still not sure whether I have deceived to keep them in my fish list. I love their looks! How is their personality? Are they needy and require additional care?

Additionally has anyone had experiences where their clown goby has nipped at coral?

Clown gobies can nip SPS

The two blennies may fight as combtooths are typically territorial. Bi colors also sometimes are coral nippers.

I had Fatheads before, they tend to hang by caves, may hide part of the day, not super active all over like other anthias and prefer to be alone or a pair, can be picky about food and may only eat frozen. They can by shy and easily intimidated or bullied.

Thanks! Is there specific corals that Bicolors target? If they often pick at corals then I probably will lean away from them. Would a pair of tailspot blennies work? I would just like 2 small algae eaters hence having them both on the list currently.

if you want two tailspots you have to get a male and a female and it’s very hard to distinguish between them so I would just get one.

It’s not very common but the bicolors usually go for sps and fleshy lps.

No thing special about tilefish, they’re just like a big goby that needs a tight fitting lid and gets stressed out easily.

Everything else on the list looks good.

Also would a Biota Flame Angel and a Biota Multibar angel get along? Is one more likely to nip at coral than the other?

No, they will probably fight in a tank that size. I would go for the flame instead because they are easier to care for and i think they are less likely to nip.

No, mine were both dick heads once they were no longer babies. Flame got a new home. Biota angel I had to remove from my 150g for constantly fighting other fish.

Get one.

I’ll have a look at each individual item on your list:

(1) Choose between the Rainford’s Goby or the Bella Gobies. I don’t think a 75 has enough room for 3 sand-sifting Gobies although the Biota ones are better with prepared food. Get a pair of either species, but not both, IMO. Just playing it safe.

(2) If you want a Tang, the Tomini’s a good choice. I’d get one 2-2.5”, start with a small one.

(3) Choose between Bicolor or Tailspot Blenny. Again, playing it safe.

(4) Tilefish need a tight lid and don’t always adjust well. Might have something to do with the way they’re caught, sometimes small fish that are secretive are hard to catch without cyanide or other stun drugs. Not sure about feeding but I have heard issues.

(5) Get another Shrimp Goby. Yashas are shy and really do best when they’re the focal point and the tank caters around them. Get a Biota or ORA Yellow Watchman (they have yellow and grey morphs), with either a Randall’s or Tiger Pistol Shrimp.

(6) Get a Sunburst Anthias from Fiji > Indonesia or Philippines, if possible. Observe its swimming pattern. Head down, tail up? Not a good sign. Sulking in a corner? Not a good sign. Both likely point to decompression issues and / or use of drugs.

(7) Good luck with the Multibar. I’d add it fairly early if possible, before you have a tank with many fish. You know what? You could ditch the Tang and have a pair of Multi-Bars as your centerpiece. My suggestion. @Tamberav I leave the floor to you.

(8) You seem to have a decent # of fish already so maybe cut back on a Fairy Wrasse.

So here’s what I’d do for your 75:
(2) Multi-Bar Angelfish (CB- Bali Aquarich)
(2) Rainford’s Goby (CB- Biota) OR Bella’s Goby
(1) Azure Damselfish (CB- ORA)
(1) Royal Gramma (CB- Biota)
(1) Yellow Watchman Goby (CB- Biota or ORA) + Randall’s Pistol Shrimp
(1) Bicolor OR Tailspot Blenny
(1) Sunburst Anthias (Fiji > Southeast Asia)
(1) Canary Wrasse
(1) Pink Streak Wrasse
(1) Fairy Wrasse of your choice (IMO Pintail > Naoko)
(1) Orange Clown Goby (depending on how much you tolerate SPS nipping)

Your tank has “interesting” dimensions. Why not a 48 x 24 x 20? That would give you a nice 95 gallons and extra 2/3 feet of length, I would feel more comfortable with you adding a Tang, if you really want one. Basically you will have the same footprint as a standard 120, with 20” instead of 24” in height.

Just my 2 cents.

Thanks so much for all of the advice. Would two Biota flame angels be a better alternative to a pair of multibar angels?
