This 15+yr old one spot Foxface at my LFS (180g tank) is at least 9-10” long…

I will add that it actually stabbed, and envenomed the owner’s hand while he was razor scraping the dirty glass in this photo, a day after I took it…

This happened two days ago, he was in intense pain for several hours… his hand was still very swollen and painful yesterday…

It’s worth noting that this is the first time this has ever happened with this fish, and it was likely an accident on the part of the Foxface; given that it was competing with two jerk tangs for juicy fresh algae scrapings off the glass…
My mag, aptly named "Venom", is pushing 8.5" now. He hasn't stuck me, but years ago a one spot got me and I concur- it sucks. It (more than likely) won't kill you, but the pain is so bad it'll make you wish it did.

Thanks for the info. This is why I wanted a gut check from others. I’ll have to do some more thinking and restructuring as needed.

Appreciate the help! Any thoughts regarding the wrasse lineup?

Wrasse lists looks good. +1 for Melanarus recommendation or Timor wrasse. My Timor has been very peaceful out that family group.

Stocked in my 90 - Melanarus, Timor, Radiant, Carpenter and Lubbock's all good with each other.

Careful on the coral cruncher, there's a reason for that name and that could depend on what your stocking coral wise.

Tang wise - I at times regret my tomini due to is weird random hatred of the starry blenny. 2nd chance or next upgrade getting a yellow to hopefully take his attention away. Algae wise in really don't notice a difference in his cleaning/eating.

I like the coloration of the melanurus more than the yellow. I read their temperament as adults can be somewhat hit or miss which is why I originally was leaning yellow. I may go with a mel though given the input everyone has provided.

I don't plan to keep SPS, so I think I would be okay with the citron goby, but that was more of an optional oddball pick.

Is your Tomini only aggressive towards the starry blenny? It seemed like there was a consensus that Yellows eventually need more than a 48" tank, and some consider them ticking time bombs, which is why I had focused on a bristletooth such as Kole, Tomini or squaretail. A yellow would be nice since there's captive bred options. I planned to add the tang very last to help reduce potential aggression.

Look at a leucoxanthus instead of a chrysus?

My melanurus isn't aggressive and I have a Macropharyngodon meleagris leopard and a Halichoeres leucoxanthus in the tank.

My Tomini used to chase my Starry and Lawnmower until I added the Foxface and most aggression stopped between algae eaters.

I think I will start looking at melanurus, timor, or leucoxanthus in place of the chrysus. I wanted to stick with one Halichoeres, and have the primary mix be of cirrhilabrus and paracheilinus.

I don't plan on keeping any other algae fish, so I would hope the tang does not feel like it has competition in that regard. I know the tailspot will graze algae, but given his small size and tendency to stay in the rockwork I would think he'd stay off the radar.

My Halichoeres garnoti was a gorgeous girl. But she was growing fast and ended up being a jumper. 😟

Appreciate the tip and been leaning way to try to reduce that aggression!

Tomini has only been mean to the starry blenny and not to the point of doing damage, just constantly on top of him and pushing him off the rockwork.

I like the idea of mixing the wrasse species, I tried to add an exquisite prior to the radiant wrasse. Seemed like I was maxed out on "pure" swimmer wrasses as he jumped out of the tank to his hearts content. 3x in overflow box and then somehow out of the corner of a canopy.

Not necessarily a tip, just my own experience. Other people have had similar but others have had way less successful attempts.
