Hopefully - indefinitely was an overestimate:)

Glad to be an inspirator :)

Sincerely Lasse
I realised I actually hadn’t started a tank from scratch for nearly 20years so needed help.... I also shamelessly stole your rock wall idea and got some pieces sent over from Germany... I’m aiming For the rock pool look... so thankyou for a lot of the inspiration

What is going into this tank? Is it hi tech?

I realized I have been doing the Triton Method > 40 yrs, except I don’t test or use protein skimmer.
I will monitor with a GHL computer, but aiming for a simple to maintain, skimmerless, external filter and also using an oxydator. Intentions currently are for a rockpool style tank... softies ( if I can find any), gorgs, a few lps and maybe some macro algae... I know these are all famous last works, so it will be interesting to see where it actually ends up... my LFS has some nice mangroves in, which is already pulling at me

I like mixed gardens and lean toward lagoons with macro. I started there 45 years ago and never left; only added sponges, sea apples and feathers.

I really like the oxygenator that you Brits use. In my experience, gas exchange is paramount in a reef tank. I maximize gas exchange with aggressive circulation at water surface and tumble water going from display to the sump. It is difficult to get too much oxygen in a reef tank.

Hi and thanks, no there fine, no coral issues but I think this is as I’m mainly SPS... I did add a clam that my tigerpyre angel decided it wanted for lunch, I was away with work so had to watch on camera as it chowed down...

I stopped keeping ornamental clams for that reason.

The office tank seems to be cycling well, a few fish now in and doing great, 10 Nass snails, 5 Crocea snails, 5 algae hermits and a tuxedo urchin, all doing their jobs and earning their keep! thanks #Lasse for the cycling method I’m following...
On not such a good note, my first time (and last) of buying a XR15 gen5 ecotech LED, it’s like a disco in the tank... i thought they fitted my all around needs, price, ease of use, ease of access to the tank, clean look and the reviews seemed ok, but boy they must have some blinkered fan boys writing these reviews.. wish I’d compromised on the access and gone for GHL lightbars as I couldn’t stick to my tried, tested and trusted Orpheks due to tank size. John Travolta would love to party in here!! it isn’t quite as bad in real life as in the photos... but not acceptable

I’ve had a potential self inflicted disaster today, some of you may know that I’ve been using LaCl dosed directly into my display tank for a couple of years now, with no issues whatsoever. I inadvertently hit a button on my GHL app and it dosed about 300ml of LaCl into my display over a couple of hours... the first I knew of it a was when a couple of my wrasse went into real distress and I could here them hitting the jump net and all the splashing from upstairs. Really sadly ive now lost 3 fairy wrasse up to now... the tank was like skimmed milk!!
I immediately turned all power heads on full and aimed at the water surface and started water changes, 100 L changed so far..
I’ll do 150 - 200 L a day for a few days..
On the upside, I’ve not lost any inverts, my nem sulked for a few hours, but seems fine now, all remaining fish are feeding, with no apparent issues, including all angels, butterfly, anthias, sand burying wrasse, tang, clowns and damsels.
God knows what will happen to my sps over the coming months, all look ok except 1 milli, which has similar damage to alk burns... I’m about to test Alk and Ca to see how much has precipitated out...
It just goes to show how we have to be so careful with all of the apps etc we use and rely on so much now, one inadvertent press on a touch screen following a container refill and a potential disaster.. fingers crossed

Let everyone know how it went - or people can predict how it went - I predict your fish had problems, your Coral retracted - but if you got the Lanthanum out enough - and tested your PO4 adequately - you did ok

Keeping it clean: Have you used a filter roller?
