Acan placement

Just purchased a acan frag today. Want to place it in the bottom of the tank. Will it be ok? Or does it have to be moved higher. It is opening up nicely.

what type of lights are you running and how deep? I always start my corals at lower lighting levels and then move them up slowly.

I personally keep mine right on the sandbed... Place them on a large frag plate or a piece of rock for them to grow on. Once they begin to grow out they can be easily knocked over causing them problems.

the lights i have are current usa. Have a small nano tank so its roughly about 12 inches down from the light

Yes, i have them on the sandbed on a frag plate right now. I would rather keep it in the bottom but just not sure if its good for it being at the bottom

Which version do you have? And if the light is 12 inch from the sandbed its about 50-35 par which is low light... i keep mine in low light and have been fine so im sure yours will aswell:)

Sand bed now and also note when you move them up in a month or so break them from and frag plug if you haven't already and glue directly to the flattest rock area you can. Alan's like to grow out pretty fast this way versus leaving on a plug on the tip of a rock where they typically form an Acan ball which limits / slows growth. I recently started glueing my acan frags on a 3" frag disk which speeds growth and give a great appearance for the coral. If you wanted you could get a 3" disk , glue your frag to it and leave it right in the sand bed for good. Give's mysis once a week and roids once or twice a week too , works for me at least.

Mine have their own rock at the bottom- and they are all hiding babies...can't wait until it's all grown in :)

Is target feeding required? Will reef roids be ok? Or need other food?

Target feeding is optional, not required. I throw mine LPS pellets every now and then, or a little squirt of whatever the fish are having. The shrimp usually ends up stealing from them though...
