im having problem with 2 of my acans...i have 1 colony that i fragged...all frags made it and was puffy..then the colony is not looking really good..flesh are sucked in its been like that for 2-3 weeks now...its not dying but its slowly receding..i did an iodine dip and looks like its holding on but its not getting better either...this morning i saw brown slime on one head and i suck it with a baster and the head is gone/dead...

then the other day one of my other acan completely very healthy,i notice one head has brown slime,i suck it with a baster and got this brown gooey slime and the head is gone, its all skeleton,i thought it just got stung by something so i move it somewhere no where near anything...then after two days another head has brown slime again so i cleaned it again and of course the head is dead again...its like its going head after head...

what should i do?i ahve no idea whats going on..some of my acans are doing good im just worried whats going on maybe its contagious or something..or is it brown jelly disease?

pls help...thank u:cry:

have you checked your parameters? I was having a similar problem with some of my acans where they would not open up like they were and it was going on for a few weeks and were slowly receding. I had been testing alk and ca on a regular basis and everything was stable. Finally 2 weeks ago I checked my mag and realized it was pretty low so I've been dosing mag and now my acans are opening back up and are almost as puffy as they used to be. The weird part was none of my other lps were affected by this and were growing and doing great, just the acans showed signs of stress. Good luck.

"Brown Jelly" is dead tissue that is being consumed by protozoans. It usually starts with damaged tissue from a sting or falling. You can try Iodine dips daily and putting them in an area of increased flow, but not strong direct flow from a powerhead.

Receeding acans and chalices that do not have "brown jelly" infections are often treatable with Interceptor as people have discovered parasites resembling acro red bugs.

If acans and chalices are receeding, I'd do an interceptor treatment for sure.

interceptor is a prescription only drug, that kills heartworms in dogs. you will have to go to your vet and explain the situation and take proof that it is for your corals. you will want the pills for LARGE dogs.

there are tons of threads on the treatment, do a google search and you will find the instructions and dosages there.

yea im thinking its params plus the stress of just fragging. I like that acan though its a nice piece. If you ever make it out to Redmond Luisse let me know and we can do a trade or something. I'm on RF too.

It looks to me like you are having issues with either Alk or Mg. I had a similar problem with Mag a while back and it took me a while to realize what was happening.

All of my Acans were suffereing but nothing else looked awry with the tank. Loa nd behold when I finally tested mg, my sps had started fading real bad, all my lps were faded and receding. the Mg was at 800

luisse25 the dip that I have found to help with the brown slime is the ReVive coral dip. I use it after fraging on the mother colonies and the frags. Just be sure and follow directions. And as previously stated check your mag because the acans love it. I would not fan or blow the brown slime off in the main display either, you run a chance of infecting your other colonies.

ok i went to get my water checked heres my water parameters...
CA 480
MG 950 ppm
ALK 11dkh
nitrate 15-20(i know,im doing more water changes)
nitrite 0
ammonia 0
ph 8.2

my temp is 76-79

i bought tropic marin pro coral cure as one of my fellow local reefer said i can use this for a dip to stop/treat bacterial infections
and yes he also told me to get REVIVE but my LFS dont have it...
i also bought VITAMARIN-C by brightwell...

so should i do a TMPCC dip?

im planning to start supplementing vitamin-c in my tank..

thanks for the advices and please do give me an idea on what to do...
let me know what u guys think of my water parameters and how to correct it..this is really my first time having this kind of problem...it all happens since i started fragging acans...

btw i only dose two little fishes c-balance part A and part B...thats about it..
40 ml everyday(20 ml each)...

im gonna start supplementing/dosing separate and plan on using brightwell products..

thanks i really appreciate all the help...

your mag. is way too low.you will need to slowly bring it up to 1300 or so.i struggle to keep mine up to 1200. i dose 2table spoons of mag. everyday.some people don't like to dose mag. everyday. just do not over correct, it will stress already stressed corals.
