Hello All,

My Acanthophyllia has started to have an open mouth, showing some skeleton, and a bring a bit “droopy”. I’ve lowered the flow in his area (what I suspect may be the issue), but any advice is helpful

Nitrate: 10 PPM
Phosphate: 0.06 PPM
Alk: 7.8 dkh
pH: 7.95-8.15

Parameters are so far so good. What about salinity and temperature?

Temp: ~78 F
Salinity: 1.024 SG
Your parameters are all good.

When did it start gaping and showing skeleton? I’m not sure I see the skeleton in this picture, but that could be after reducing the flow, right?

Sometimes they can look like that and then look fine a day or two later.

The gaping started a day or two ago, in one or two spots there is a small amount of skeleton poking through the flesh, in the fan like shapes around the edges. I don’t think the coral looks too bad overall (I’ve just seen it look better), I just want to keep ahead of any potential issues

I know exactly what you’re talking about. I have an acantho that had those fan shaped skeleton poking through. It eventually recovered and is well.

I don’t remember what caused it.

Do you have any fish that might be picking it? What fish do you have?

3 wrasses, yellow tang, Niger trigger, neon goby, various crabs, hermits, snails, starfish. I think my mystery wrasse like to take food occasionally from him when I spot feed. I’m trying to feed them and give the fish more food to keep them occupied

Watch the Niger trigger. In my experience, it ate one my acanthophyllia. The only time I’ll lose one is if a fish picks at it.

I’ve only had the Niger for 2 weeks before removing it.

That’s just my experience. I don’t know if the same is happening to you.
