I was led to believe that this was a Garf Bonsai but my LFS is not exactly a fountain of knowledge on this sort of thing.

Without knowing lineage you really cant call it a GARF's (geological aquaculture research foundation) bonsai, without knowing its lineage came from sally Joe's/Leroys colony

It's just a purple valida or secale that has green polyps for all we know,
