I have a 25G nano that’s several months old now with thriving SPS. I have three fish (percula pair, six line) and one cleaner shrimp. I have 15 pounds of live rock and one 6” maxima claim as main filtration and large slimmer to help remove protein and fats before they decompose. However I’d like a couple more fish so added 10 more pounds of LR in sump and deep sandbed. I have no idea how long a DSB really takes to cycle but guesstimate is 1-2 months?

Faster cycling if you final rinse with full salinity salt water and then use gravel vac water from an established tank on the bottom of the bed (add the gravel vacced water in first then sand on top).

I use this with plenums and they will cycle within 10 days if you do it like this.

Also be careful on adding to many fish O2 is a serious consideration especially in a smaller aquarium.

Thanks HuduVudu for the advice. I didn’t add thank water change water first which I should have but I did transfer live rock rubble and chaeto from my second tank. Just added plant light on alternate night schedule which wife likes.

Regarding fish I’d live to add a small tang or Pygmy angel but know better. I’m sticking with traditional nano fish and plan to add small school of Fire fish.
