first off, i want to say that i will try my best to post pics of what is happening because I know how hard it is to describe different things that happen to corals without actually showing it.

basically, i have a 12G JBJ nano-dx with a clip on 150w Viper K-2 14k halide fixture. i have about 8 or 9 chalices in my tank, some that have been there for a while, and some that have been added as of last week.

there is one frag that i received that actually has one of, if not the best, colors of all my chalices. its a "green dream" and it really does look nice.

now, my problem is this: as of last night, right before i was going to turn off the main lights and switch on the moonlights, i noticed that there were literally "bubbles" forming in the chalice. the flesh looks REALLY puffed up in certain sections (its only about a 1.5" frag), and when i use my baster to blow sand off of it, you can see almost "waves" form in the flesh because those bubbles are just filled with air.

i am very perplexed as to what it is, because the rest of my chalices are doing great. they are all growing and looking fine. and even with this one, the colors are still phenomenal and other than the weird bubbles of air, it looks amazing. ANY help would be greatly appreciated. thank you so much in advance.

I have had that happen to an acro before. Weird indeed I dont remember the outcome. If the coral looks like its healthy and growing maybe leave it a lone and check it out in a month or so. If it looks bad maybe frag that part off. I would wait and see what others say before you listen to me though... Im not huge into chalices

thanks SO much for the info! yeah i gotta take pics, basically jus waiting for camera to get back home to do so. hopefully will have them up tonight. truly appreciate the info. i'll keep ya'll posted.

i had this happen to me.... it went away on its own... I did try to pop the bubble with a pin becuz it seemed it was trying to pull the flesh of the coral away... I dont think trying to pop it helped but thats what i did.... maybe try it...

Chalice indigestion?? Feeling gassy, or bloated?? lol, same here just popped em and had to push the bubble out, but was fine after, dunno what causes it, no different foods or abnormal conditions, that I know of anyway.

I have had that happen to alot of fresh cut chalices. When you cut them obviously you tear the skin and when you put them back in the tank air can get trapped between the skeleton and the skin.If the coral is healthy it will go away on its own.It will actually work its way to the surface kinda like a pimple and eventually pop.I have also tried popping them and to be honest sometimes by doing that you can create an infection, I would leave it alone and let it happen naturally. It probally happened when they were shipped if they were fresh frags when they were shipped to ya.Hope this helps ya.

Tanked,

That makes sense.... mine was a freshly cut frag that developed a bubble about 2 weeks later.... Thanks

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! you guys have been a huge huge help. and Tanked, thats exactly what it was. freshly cut, i am not a 100% sure, but i did JUST receive it recently in the mail. i figured it was the stress of everything too, but i also was REALLY hopin it wasn't anything "contagious" i guess you can say, that may spread to everything else.

by the looks of it now, it seems slightly less puffed up, so i will just monitor it and hopefully it will recede. i really really appreciate the info everyone, and las and wicked demon, i really felt like popping it with a pin or something, but honestly i was just afraid. i guess if it does end up getting worse, i will consider it. if it keeps going down, hopefully it will end up just disappearing tho. thanks again everyone

maybe a light shake might dislodge some of the air trapped? maybe pop it off the disc and re glue it.

Glad to help but i learned a little something too... I never thought it had to do with being freshly cut. I learn everyday.

yeah i didn't even think of the fact of whether it was freshly cut or not. to be honest, i really have no clue. it was a WYSIWYG picture, and actually it is just a triangle shaped frag not on a disc or plug of any sort. just stand-alone. but i truly appreciate all the comments once again. now i know not to totally freak out but just give it some time to settle in.
