Hi,

Tank has been running for about a year, I only recently started using rodi water about a month ago.

Nitrate 0
Phosphate 0.03

Please can you help me identify this algae. I saw a few bubbles on it yesterday but haven't seen any today.

I have
1 bicolour blenny
1 watchmen goby
2 clownfish
1 firegoby
1 molly
4 hermit crabs

Tank is neptunian cube 90

Thanks
I’d be inclined to say dinoflagellate and Cyanobacteria. How much are you feeding at the moment and what food?

The first photo seems to show a complex structure. The short dark threads could be an algae filament encased in slime from diatoms, dinoflagellates and cyanobacteria.

Do you think increasing nitrate, lowering the lights, adding bacteria, and manually removing as much as possible would help resolve the issue?

I agree with the posters above that this is likely a mix of uglies including dinoflagelletes. Look up Dino combatting strategies on Reef2Reef—it is a very common and frustrating issue.

Congrats on switching to RODI. This should help improve water quality and stability going forward. I am personally not a fan of blackouts to combat Dino’s but if you have limited to no corals then there is little risk / downside to a blackout.

Sorry, I don’t know if any of these actions would make a difference, but you might try. I have a 75 gallon aquarium and keep 50 Magarites to keep surfaces clean. The downside is feeding the snails. Once the aquarium is cleaned, there is not enough food for 50 snails until the next flair up of algae.
