Algae on corals

I have a palm tree coral that was growing like crazy and all of the sudden algae started growing on top but not hair algae just brown algae and it closed up, would it be OK to like dust it off with a brush or just let it come off by it self any advice I already moved it from where it was to another spot

Well I suppose a pic would help at this point then. From what you describe it could be cyano or worse... Death.
