All these anemones walking into powerheads... Carelessness or inevitable?

Nice bubbles! And I always hated the foam guards because of how often they need cleaning this might only be a problem from me because I don't use any Mechanical filtration corals especially flower pots and anemone so much better with stuff floating around in the water. This cause a lot of issues with clogged pads on my mps and gyre

Honestly the picture from that angle isn't really true the zoas are below it so they don't touch I had some that were closer that started to touch and would close so I moved them

My Nems stay put.
From what I've read, Nems stay put once they are happy. If they are moving around there is something going on they don't like....

Water quality, too much or too little light or flow, coral warfare...

Here are my monsters.

Taking it off and putting it back on puts all the debris back into the water column lol.

My fire shrimp likes to hang out on it, and pick stuff out of it, too. I'm sure I'd loose him if I removed mine.

Turns out tap talk allows for much clearer uploads, so here ya go.

Question, is this normal nocturnal behavior? This next one was taken shortly after lights out, and the following was take a couple how's after that, and is its current state.

I noticed it was closed up last night too, but looked great today with lights on.

Lol, first rule of nem club: know how to keep them happy before you get one.

But seriously, when adding a nem to a tank I wrap mesh, foam or pantyhose around my wave makers. Out of the 30 or 40 that I've propagated I've never had one walk more than a few inches.

My nems wander so much I would not give them the chance. I use a coarse filter sponge sheet from eshopps cut into strips and zip tied together over my powerheads. They do collect junk quickly but if cleaned regularly act as mechanical filtration I suppose. I also have the same foam covering my overflow, which is nice since it keeps food from going into my filtration area. Its honestly a big pain but for me its worth it to ensure the health of my animals.

see this is where you have hit the nail on the head. You have alot of people here posting up "mine never moved" "mine is happy it wont move" "mine has never even touched the glass" this is great and im happy these reefers are getting lucky and not having an issue. The absolute truth to the question though is They can and will move, whenever they want, when your not home to quickly put your guard on etc etc. aslong as you are aware of the potential, closed loop is great for nems, also is no power heads so like a nem specific tank with enough return pump flow, any other option including foam gaurds givin enough time a nem will go in and chop itself up. nems like gigs will only take 1-2 tenticles chopped in the water comlumn to wipe out your whole fish stock...

I've had mine for a few months. Once he found his spot in the first few days he hasn't moved since. No issues with my gyre 130 at all. Here he is looking all happy.

You do have a point but all my fish tanks are Nem specific tanks and I've found over the years of keeping nems each has a preference in flow, lighting, and sand deepness, rock crevices etc and when you find this they will rarely move IMO a moving Nem is a unhealthy Nem or you just don't have the right parameters or spot that is suitable for the Nem especially when they move around for weeks at a time as you can I have a lot of nems that never move as long as you provide the right amount flow and light, good water quality and a good spot to anchor that should not move :) here is one of my mixed Nem tanks where I haven't had a Nem move yet I've even moved around the nems on the rocks and even moving them does not cause them to move

I think if your tank is stable and water parameters are consistent, then you shouldn't have to worry about a nem wondering off and getting sucked in a powerhead.

Nice bubbles! And yeah I always do my best to keep my levels stable including alk and mag especially for the gigs here's another Nem tank where I don't have any moving nems
