A little about the tank. Two systems connected about a year ago, mixed reef 20 months old. Live rock in one and sterling rock in the other. Pictured is the live rock that started developing algae this summer. The second picture the algae is gone… today a few months later.
I confirmed dinos under a microscope with other nuisance algae. Nutrients with hobby resolution testing has always been zero since tank started.
Dinoflagellate:
Note the now clean rock. What did I do? Nothing except normal weekly maintenance that included wc, blowing rocks, scrubbing with a toothbrush and placing snails on the algae. No raising nutrients, dosing chemicals or any other often suggested activity; just simple maintenance.
Controlling algae, including dinos, is just that easy….stop following the myth and hype. No raising nutrients, no dosing chemicals, no black out, no turning off equipment, etc, etc…..you have seen all the advice.
