Hi
I have just bought a bubble tip anenome.
When it was in my LFS it was all white with purple tips.
Now I have it home and still in the bag it has a big red bulbous middle that keeps inflating and deflating.
Can anyone tell me what this is and why is it happening.

Not a bubble tip. Looks like a bleached Condy.
It’s stressed out, which causes it to deflate and inflate.
If you paid for a bubble tip I would return it

That's its mouth that is inflating ,its normal... how long has it been in the bag ..?

It almost looks like it's actually upside down in the bag. If not then it's likely just stressed and should settle down once it's in your system. Also yes that is Condylactis gigantea, not Entacmaea quadricolor.

Oh .I still like it though. Know have it in the tank and I think it was upside down.

It has been in the bag about 45 minutes. I have removed it from the bag and it does look a lot better now

Thank you. I agree I think I had it upside down. It looks so pretty the wrong way up though.

I would give it a week or two and start feedings.

Michelle. Did you get charged for a BTA? They cost more than a Condy is why I ask.

Is it definitely a condo as I have just read up on it and it is not very friendly at all. Not sure I want it.
Yes I was told it was a BTA which I paid £25 for

I hope they would allow you to exchange it for what you were told you were buying? You're right a Condylactis is not a good fit for everyone and you paid a good price for a BTA but a high price for a Condy. ugh

Really worried about this now as I have a lot of soft coral in my tank.my smallest fish is a Pyjama Cardinal.
I don't like the fact that it can uproot and sting anything in its path

All anemones will sting anything in its path.
As long as no fish swims directly into the nem it won’t it eat it

My LFS has really nice staff and they are usually on the ball.
I will talk to them tomorrow and keep you updated with the outcome.

Well many nems can uproot and sting, but the condy does have a slightly stronger sting.

It's not actually considered a host anemone, but some clowns may adjust to it.

I would prefer a true host anemone myself and would probably exchange it for one.

The fish seem to be keeping away from it.My shrimp got too close and jumped back and moved away pretty quick

Many LFS just don't know anemone's that well, super common to ID wrong or give incorrect info on them, doubt it's intentional.

Most fish will steer clear of a Condylactis. I had a 55g dedicated to being a Condylactis tank and I had 2 rugged Maroons who were not afraid of them. On the same note, Cardinalfish has been known to do a swim through some of my BTA's and LTA's. I certainly hope yours do not venture near the one in your tank.

I'm not trying to frighten you. Just trying to give you a heads-up.
