Anna's IM 40L AIO Adventure

I took @Slocke's advice yesterday and have moved the acro's up to their spot to be spoiled by the light. I asked about acclimation and came to the conclusion it wasn't needed for them in my tank. So let's see if they live!

I'm wondering if now would be a good time to get afr to keep that cal/mag up for the sticks 🤔 I've been dosing red sea mag 2ml for the last 3 days and just got it at 1395 from the 1340ish it was last Friday. I've also lost rfa since dosing, so I've stopped. I'm not sure though if it was the dosing that made them croak or what, because I can't really see that being the issue since my mag use to be sitting at 1550 with them in the tank.

The big chemistry brains have told me not to test magnesium, just calcium. Then just dose something that increase both like AFR.

Right @Miami Reef ?

Natural seawater contains magnesium around 1280 ppm; there really isn’t a reason to push it above 1350 ppm.

Magnesium never depletes more an 1/10 of calcium consumption. The ratio is 2.8dKH alk, 18-20 ppm calcium, and 1-2 ppm magnesium. All For Reef accounts for this. :)

While everyone guy in the world is going to come in here and slap band aids on you.

That rfa was sick to begin with. A lot of rfa's are having issues and no one is talking about it.

Last year it was clams. This year is rfa's.

OK boys, get those bandaids on now.

I don't need band aids. I won't ******* learn if I'm not told. Rather ask questions and be looked at as dumb, then to just continuously do something ignorant to the tank.

Don't tell the guys that. That might make em cry

But on a serious note. Something is going on with the rfa imports. I forget who brought it up.

@danieyella might remember. Florida rfa's have been pretty much bullet proof. The fancy indo ones are not.

I think RFAs are only in the Atlantic but it’s the ones in the Gulf of Mexico are good but the carribean ones aren't doing well. Something like that.

I really do not remember who was sick. Just florida is doing well, rfa wise.

Just watch for whats going on with livestock and who to keep from. Seems to be the clam issue might be cleared up. I don't know on that either.

Was it the Maxima clam that was recommended to get over the derasa in here? Man if only @Fish Styx hadn't cut his internet connection...
Deresa
Maxima need more light then you have

Matt’s internet is fixed. He’s just dealing with family stuff.

If you have beaucoup $$$, Pacific East Aquaculture has a 40% off sale on everything and you might be able to nab a 3+ inch squamosa. Better odds of getting that to survive. @Miami Reef might have advice.

I hope the clam situation is better. I had three go down last year, each within 2 weeks, which isn't normal even for a starving clam. Planning on a Biota squamosina once I get everything else stabilized.

I specialize in Maxima clams, but the other types should generally behave similarly.

Perhaps my next article should be about tips and tricks of keeping them. I have 16, and I’ve generally been very successful at keeping them. I never really felt like they were any more challenging than the other corals we keep. Maybe I’m doing something differently?

I think it could be a helpful article if one wasn’t already made.

I would read that

What do you think about the SWA "gold" and "ultra gold" maximas? I'm debating... But I also want a hippo and a squamosina... ugh.

What is SWA?

I have ORA gold and ultra gold maxima clams in my tank.

Oh. They sell ORA clams.

I bought 8 Ultra Grade maximas from them. I actually emailed ORA and the guy told me to place the order with them. He handpicked them for me since I was disappointed of the appearance of the first grade maxima clams from ORA at BRS. :)

BRS doesn’t sell the ultra grade maxima.
