I heard that silicone seams are only guaranteed for about 8 years by the manufacturers, but that should be very conservative and people should expect at least 10 years from their tanks. My LFS has some 20+ year old tanks that are fine. He had never seen anything as fragile as the Red Sea tanks though, with many failing below the 4 year mark. They have stopped selling them now. In the UK we have a very good manufacturer called D-D and the aluminium stands come prebuilt. I’m not going near Red Sea tanks again.

I wouldn't worry. The G3's look to be a vast improvement over the G2's. Consider installing a leak detection system around your Tank and a few simple preparations can help in the event of a problem and to ease your mind. A couple of bar Clamps maybe a ratchet strap and a plastic stock tub. Not a lot of expense for some peace of mind.

This type of customer mentality is how companies get away with crap products and scummy business practices nowadays. When you spend $5k+ on a reef system, and have $10k+ in livestock... No, thank you. Leak detectors and plastic tubs are not the peace of mind I am looking for.

Which tank to you have and for how long? If you post pictures some people may be able to advise. You probably also want to reach out to RedSea customer service as well.

Mine is past warranty. Advice would be to get a new tank asap lol but I was really not trying.

This appears to be past the inner silicone fillet, and just starting to creep into the structural glass:glass silicone seam…

I don’t think this is an immediate emergency, but it is definitely a sign that you should start getting affairs in order to transfer livestock and rock to a temporary holding system within the next week or so… (the likes of a Rubbermaid stock tank work great for a holding system, and they can be drilled/plumbed to you sump of so-desired!)

I wouldn’t recommend relying on this current tank holding together while you’re rushing to get a new tank ordered, then waiting for it to ship, then figuring out setup… the safest bet is an interim holding system that will buy you unlimited time to work out your plans moving forward!

(This applies even in a warranty situation, get the photos to Red Sea, then proactively decommission the tank while waiting on the bureaucracy!)

This is how the seams on my RedSea 525 G2 started to degrade. Over the course of 6 months or so the bubble on my upper for the left seam got larger and larger. I found it helpful to save down pictures since you may not notice the process otherwise. I went through months of no change then one day I take a look and the bubble was larger!
