My brother's tank just blew a seam...complete failure overnight at his business.

My fellow Red Sea owners, check your seams daily. Buy some straps or some c-clamps, be prepared...if that can even be a thing. This has been a devastating experience.

Here is the live video feed, not the greatest quality, but sufficient to cause nightmares.

***Update - for those that don't have instagram, I uploaded video directly in post #54; hope it works!***

Can't see the video because I don't do IG but I'm familiar with RS failures and amazed that people still buy their tanks.

My first failure was Reefer 170 Gen 1.

I'm currently watching my Gen 2 reefer 300 full of SPS failing as I type.

I don't know why I'm worried tho because redsea says its perfectly fine so they will not do anything even tho the tank is under warranty.

Our team has thoroughly reviewed all the photos and information you provided. We can confirm that the seam protectors of your aquarium are functioning properly, and we believe your aquarium is not at risk of failure.

Let me see if I can figure out how to upload here somehow. But yea your seams don't look too bad (sad I am even saying this)...this system was a G1, and it looks like only your seam guards are being somewhat impacted at this point...if it goes any further, I'd be contacting Red Sea again.

And somehow they have maintained massive profits through all of this

They have 100k members on their FB group that they moderate and rumor is any post showing a failure is removed. I've tried to find any mention of it on there and nada... OP should try posting this there and see what happens.

Last i heard in addition to removing posts they also banned members making the posts. They've been spewing BS for years. Fist it was only large tanks failing and a center stand support was the fix. Now Gen 3 euro bracing is the new fix. IMO it is failure of the silicone and until they change that nothing is going to change. Ive owned a lot of different brands in 30 years of having aquariums but RS is the only brand I've ever seen that algae can destroy a silicone seam.

Their FB is highly censored, any post that is critical of RS or their believes is removed and poster is banned….haha!

They've mastered the art of controlling their targeted audience. Theyve created controlled spaces for discussion and I've noticed they don't have a presence here on R2R likely to avoid driving traffic here due to the numerous weekly failure posts that they don't have the ability to control.

Every time I see a post like this, I'm surprised my (All Glass) tanks are still holding up just fine. My main tank started it's life as a lizard tank, complete with UV and heating lights and a very, very dry environment. It was like that for probably 5 years, then it sat in my basement (unused) for another few years and has spent the last 15ish years split between a freshwater and saltwater tank.

TBH I'm glad they aren't a presence here or failure post would most likely disappear to a vendor feedback thread never to be seen.

That's true, I hadn't thought of that. I do wonder if they've tried to offer $$$ in exchange for some control to forums. We'll never know.

Oh yeah I forgot this thread wouldn't be complete without @UncommonSense ... only because typically we see the seam degrading and slowly leaking but this was more of a catastrophic failure.
Many of the early failures were burst bottom front seams on larger tanks that burst and drain quickly. I think that's one reason RS originally thought the cause was lacking of a center vertical support on the stands. Their so closed mouthed about the problem even if they do correct the issue and change the silicone being used i doubt they'll ever publicly state that. Posts like this will just become fewer. Unfortunately with the Gen 3 being new it will be a while before we know if the issue is corrected or not.

That sucks. I cannot believe they still haven't had a reasonable response to this.
They're taking full advantage of being a European company and the fact that our issue is just not quite sized right to attract either class action lawsuits or juicy individual lawsuits.

They absolutely deserve to be torched over the issue - not so much because they had an issue to begin with (any business can make an incorrect decision), but because of how they have responded. Full transparency, going above and beyond to make the owners right, and actually fixing the issue going forward.

If they had done that, maybe they could salvage their reputation. But they haven't and they won't.
