Another Red Sea Failure...Viewer Discretion Advised

It's building aquariums. This ain't rocket science that should require interative design improvements. We are solidly 20 years into the rimless fad being a thing and making a watertight glass box has been pretty well figured out for 70 years. RedSea just puts money into marketing instead of QC. They found their market though and the guys up top certainly made more than I'll over make so congrats on that I guess.

What does that have to do with my comment?

My comment was stating that the G2s have been out for 4 years at this point. It’s pretty typical for companies in every industry to release new models with changes

Feels sooner than that - maybe I’m getting it mixed up because they just did G2 for the ReefLEDs and return pumps, and a lot of the promo content was in 2023

Anyway I had some sympathy when we all thought it was just G1s - but having G2s still leak is the final straw

The other thing they have mentioned multiple times is that they like the look of RedSea tanks and that they can get a complete package and don't need to piece together their own setup.
The thing is there are other options for complete systems RS just has better marketing with more influencers, everyone loves a good YouTube influencer. More retailers push they're systems. They usually are faster to ship than some of the others often having tanks ready to ship while some others have a wait. In this day and age I see people buy inferior products just because they can get them faster. There's very little patience in today's society. The saying good things come to those that wait means nothing these days. It's a shame really as it allows substandard companies to thrive.

Last i heard in addition to removing posts they also banned members making the posts. They've been spewing BS for years. Fist it was only large tanks failing and a center stand support was the fix. Now Gen 3 euro bracing is the new fix. IMO it is failure of the silicone and until they change that nothing is going to change. Ive owned a lot of different brands in 30 years of having aquariums but RS is the only brand I've ever seen that algae can destroy a silicone seam.

Why would the silicone be so hard to change out? It's easier than adding all the other things. Doesn't make sense

No facts but from reading It seems they use a 2 part silicone that cures faster than what other companies use. It allows them to assemble and ship tanks faster. Even if they have changed the silicone on gen 3s I doubt they'll ever release that information. The addition of the euro bracing will get the credit. Unfortunately we won't know for a few years if the Gen 3s are actually better or just more BS.

Because if the silicone is the actual issue, it means having to switch to a 1K silicone and cure tanks for 3-4 weeks instead of 3-4 days. That’s not a simple thing to fix as a company when you now need to come up with a ton of warehouse space for storage and all the other logistics it messes up

Unfortunately, no one puts together a shiny package better than Red Sea. They have great design and make it look very good all together

and people love shiny things.... sometimes it's just that simple why they sell so well.

WB sells a similar "complete package" as well but they don't have the marketing/design team of RedSea. Shiny things + effective advertising sells.

I have to say having a WB 330.7 I personally I do not see that my RS tank is looks any nicer than the WB. If anything the WB is a nicer system just having a gate valve instead of the crappy RS diaphragm valve that requires constant adjustments tho I think RS may have finally starting using a gate valve? I think they set up awesome looking displays but TBH i see nothing side by side with my WB that makes the RS more visually appealing, at least not to me.

amazes me people still buy these things. I guess thats what happens when you research facebook groups and it's highly censored to push these pieces of crap. Thankfully my wife got rid of hers before anything happen

There are awesome packages from many companies out there but I’ve yet to see any of them setup in store and ready to take home that day. Or if they do have to ship, Red Sea is like 7-10 days. Others are 4-6 weeks.

If Waterbox could break into the LFS arena, they would sell better

Ya I bought my Gen 2 reefer 300 and it was at the store in 3 days. I tried to buy my water box from the same store but the owner wasn't sure if he could get it or not so I bought it from WB. I got my WB a couple of years ago and they were available to ship immediately but I don't think that's the case now. I will say the owner my LFS where I like to shop told be he is know longer recommending RS tanks. He said he asked a his RS sales rep about the failures. I don't know what the rep said but the store owner told me it didn't give him a warm fuzzy feeling, his exact words.

My LFS used to sell RS and a while ago I believe they stopped being a dealer completely and switched to Waterbox.

Going back to aquarium packages. If you want lights included (which my friend wanted), then your only two options that I’m aware of are Waterbox or RS.

I'm amazed at how many people don't want to put in the time to buy their own gear. I've never bought package deals on anything not just tanks. I've always felt I could put together a better package myself. I guess growing up in a different time leaves me with a totally different mindset than many younger than myself. I love building PCs and buying every component separately to get the best bang for my buck is how I roll. Shopping and researching is half the fun. But I also have time to clean my glass without thinking it takes too long to do like many.

Not even the new series with euro brace will get me to buy one lol.
id buy some ocean front property in wyoming before id buy a red sea tank anymore. I still have an old oceanic 210 gallon tank running. That thing has to be about as old as me i bet

Seeing these tank leaks make me decide that my next tank upgrade be an acrylic tank.
I have not researched acrylic. When I got my tank, it was used, so it is what it is. All I know is what little I have heard, they are lighter and scratch easily.

My local LFS has a couple of large RedSea G2's in-stock and has them on sale for 15 percent off an already marked down price. They should not in good conscious sell these Tanks and I would be on the phone to RedSea telling them to get their leaky Tanks out of my store. I don't think anyone would buy them anyway and RedSea should recall them.

Lol. Right? What's next... mark them as "Read See" tanks and really pawn them off at 'below wholesale' (?!)
