So i bought 3 days ago 3 anthias. 2 of them are already swimming happily together and one of them was hiding (dying ?) today. So after a good hour i found him hiding. He is heavily breeding and he is sitting on the sand (picture below ).

So my question is what should I do to maximise is chance to stay alive ? I have a breeder box should i put him in there and try to feed him or it will stress him and risk to kill him more ? Is there any product i could by tomorow that will help him live or should I juste wait and hope he will live ?

P.s Is it consider an emergency ?

Are there any red sores or red-ish areas on the fish? Using a flashlight, view the fish at an angle and look for a dusty sheen on the skin.

so the first died last night and one of the 2 that was looking good was found dead this morning. I came back from work and now its the last one who look very weak sitting at the bottom of the tank. He didn't want to eat and look like he got white scratch (like if he is loosing color) ? what can it be ? All the other fish are doing great.

Most anthias are delicate fish. They can contract uronema, as well as the other standard parasitic infections. They also have a fast metabolism and require multiple small feedings throughout the day. I would not recommend this group of fish to new hobbyist. IMO they absolutely need to be in QT initially to allow a controlled environment to begin eating as well as medicated for parasites.

How were they at the lfs - active and eating? Also what is your acclimation process? But for them to die one by one that fast usually means ich or velvet. I'd get it out asap to minimize chance of spreading to other fish.

My lfs had 4, one male and 3 females, yesterday and I really wanted to get atleast one but all refused to eat. One female was just swimming in the back vertically and the other 2 seem to have tiny specks on them. Tank had heavy micro bubbles so it could have been just that but I wasn't going to take a chance.

they were active and eating in my tank... I acclimate them 40 min in the back for the temperature and 1 hour drop acclimate for the salinity. I wasnt able to put them in a QT because we have a big heat wave in Quebec right now and to keep the temperature at a good level was hard.

Thanks to all for the help. The third one died last night. I talked to my LFS and he told me that it might be my acclimation that is too long. But, he was kind enought to sold me 3 other at half the price.

I recently purchased 3 Lyretails and they were in full QT doing ok, then once transferred to my DT, they died one by one over a course of 2 weeks.

I was stumped.... i figured it might be due to aggression etc, since they are known to kill each other. I also read that sometimes people catches anthias with Cyanide, which they can look perfectly healthy outside, but inside, their organs are slowly shutting down. Out of the 3, I was only able to find 2 bodies, the 3rd one completely disappeared. The 2 bodies I did find, seem a little beaten up, which most likely indicates to me they were fighting.

As others have mentioned, Anthias are sensitive fish, that requires ALOT of feeding since they are super active. If they show weakness... most likely they will get picked off. For now, Imma stay away from Anthias.. haha

Man, I'm going through what seems like EXACTLY the scenario you went through. Did this affect any of your other fish?
