Anyone here kayak fish?

I plan on heading to the lake tomorrow to do a little bass fishing. Here is my Ride 115. Hopefully I get to do a little fishing in it on the coast this year, Florida/Biloxi.

I'm really interested in getting in to kayak fishing. I've been fishing since I was a kid. Fished bass tournaments for a while but kind of want to do something more simple. How long have you been doing it? How big is your kayak? What does a good rig sell for? #newbiequestions

I’ve done a lot of saltwater yak fishing. Got a hobie outback and fished the nj salt and pa freshwater. Pretty cool way to fish. Florida would be a dream area to yak fish.

I kayak out my bait when I'm shark fishing :) Penn 12/0 on the beach in a spike, haul my bait out past the breakers and rush back.

We used to use kayaks on the lake growing up though. Lots of fun!

Yea it’s great! Had one of those kayas where the rear splits so you can stand up, it was nice and could bowfish from it too, but was heavy and slow so I got a hobie revolution (13 I think) and it’s great.

Living in Iowa we have good bass lakes but they don’t get huge like down south. Still a lot of fun to have them hit top water! 20” is a large bass here.

Was down in FL and they were talking about this time of year 6-10lb bass are common. A 10lb bass would be a state record here!

Owned a Skeeter bass boat for years. There are lots of smaller lakes around here that are perfect for kayaks. Some even have no motorboats on certain days of the week which works out perfect for kayak fishing.

I've been kayak fishing for at least the past 10 years. The best thing is you don't need a boat slip so basically anywhere you see unposted water you can fish from a kayak.

My kayak is 11'5" and is made my Wilderness Systems. I bought it because you can stand and fish from it if you want. I picked mine up new from Austin Kayak for around $1000.

Have you seen the videos of people using drones to fly there bait out? That looks like fun, ha. I bought and used a spike last year in Pensacola, Fl except I had to wade out about 100 yards and then cast as far as I could and wade back.



I picked up this Penn battle II and ugly stick gx2 last year. Plan on heading back down there this summer and hopefully catching something. Maybe not a shark though, ha.

accept the fact that i am mildly allergic to fish... LOL go figure that one!

That's unfortunate! I'm allergic to mammal meat, so I sort of understand your pain. (Except reefing doesn't try to kill me)

A hobie Revo is going to be the next one I purchase. I'm hoping to do some saltwater fishing from it.

You will love it... I have a Hobie Revo rigged with a Humminbird sonar/GPS and absolutely love it!!! Not being tied to a paddle while casting is a game changer for yak fishing. I fish the Long Island Sound for striped bass during the season. Here in the Northeast, we use a method called the “tube and worm” and it’s absolutely deadly. You’re essentially trolling a length of surgical tubing tipped with a sand worm and stripers absolutely crush it. It’s some of the most violet strikes you’ll ever feel from a yak and if a cow hits, be prepared to go on a sleigh ride!

I also have a remote controlled trolling motor on the back that I steer with my peddles. :) I usually just take it if its going to be windy.

Thanks, I've had this one for about 6 years. I just like being able to stand so I can sight fish and it's nice to be able to stretch your legs sometimes.

I plan on getting the Revo for the ocean and the larger lakes we have. I’ve been out in the middle of the lake in a storm before. Not exactly what you would call fun in a wide and short kayak, ha.
