Anyone else think these are a terrible idea. I just recieved my new Reef Breeders light and the hoops I had to jump though to get the App for it to work took me 2 hours. My original Photon 48 had everything on board and good to go. If there is one thing I have learned over the years with my reef tanks is to keep things as simple as possible. I could see those less computer savy or just old like me assuming the thing was just defective and return the product. Cant possibly be good for business and a 2.1 rating on google for your app should be a red flag especially when the lights are basically unusable without it. Not calling out RB in particular as it seems everyone does it now with similar frustration and complaints across the board.
I cant see how it would be any more cost effective for RB to have the controller on board as opposed to spend a bunch of money developing an app that's failure would render the product unusable. For those that say the spectrum is way more controllable I suspect this will get fiddled with for a few weeks and forgotten about and in the grand scheme of things makes zero difference to the health of the corals. We didn't have this option back in the day and the corals adapted to the new tanks lighting just fine. The ability to fiddle around with the spectrum probably dos more harm than good as most people will probably do it and put the corals in a constant state of adapting to new light at least for a few weeks until the novelty of it wares off.
With that said I can now move on to getting the app I need to buy a cheeseburger figured out. "Welcome to Mcdonalds will you be using our mobile app today"? For Gods sakes no its just a cheeseburger
