The only coral skeleton that I own is that of a dead fungiid, but it was not from my tank. My grandpa gave it to me, along with some abalone shells. I do, however collect the shells of my dead snails.

I used to, but any more I don’t have room for the clutter, and they are sad reminders. If I lose a clam, I keep the shell, as I think the ones I lost were due to worms. Now my new clams get set on an old 1/2 shell vs buying or making a base for them.

yes, but not all. i had a branching Duncan ( don't think there aren't none branching ones ). But it looked good even after it got killed by brown jelly!

But no encrusting ones, it's just a rock with calcium deposit ....

Voted others, as I do not have corals. But recently someone who had found a huge aquarium (10'x3'x3') called and asked if I was interested. By the time I arrived (a few day later, as I was on vacation) he had wrecked the aquarium into pieces.... but he had saved the rocks and old dead corals for me....
I found that the corals have pretty shape, and I will replace some of my live rock with them.
The guy thought the aquarium was too heavy to move... But I am sure he could have found a buyer who would have paid the cost of moving it out, and it would have been a win win situation. Cheaper aquarium for someone and getting rid of the tank for another. Now he has to clean hundreds of glass shards all over the place he is renovating....

It's going to happen to 100% of those of us who keep coral. Coral deaths. One of the saddest parts of being a reef aquarium owner is the loss of coral. To watch your beloved livestock become irritated, close up and then to literally die in front of your eyes is terrible! With all that trauma, who needs a reminder that gets left with certain type of corals? Yes, we're talking the skeleton here. :loudly-crying-face: Let's talk about it.

Do you keep your coral skeletons, why or why not?

Here I have some original named and signed coral art, from 2020 coral farmers market I purchased from Kris Kas of Koral Kreations. These pieces are incredible. Sits above my frag tank, lit by the blue LEDs. He does workshops at the shows, teaching others to paint their leftover coral skeletons. Pretty cool stuff

I do. Can't keep anything alive beside anemone and blue Stylo for some reason. Not sure why people think anemone are hard to keep at least rbta. Hardiest creature I've ever kept besides clowns
