That's what I'm assuming too. My stratons have a very mild coil whine that you can hear if you get up and close to the units.

It appears to be using a quality Meanwell power supply, maybe same exact that ATI does. I hear nothing from any of the meanwells I use.

No. When I'm hovering around my tank, maybe about 1-2 feet away from the fixtures.

The whine appears to be from the fixture, not the meanwell drivers.

My ATI Hybrid has no such wine and my tank is nearly silent so it sucks to hear you're having noise coming your your ATI branded LED only fixture that has no moving parts.

Did you reach out to ATI to ask if this is normal?

It doesn’t bother me too much, which is why I haven’t messaged them.

The lighting manufacturers in China have come out with a clone of the ATI Straton line. I purchased two of the light modeled after the Starln Pro G2 102. Pricing is significantly cheaper and the build quality is super impressive. I won’t be able to fully test the light since ATI is sold out of their star rail mounting hardware. I did confirm that the Kassray is fully comparable with the star rail since I purchased the mounting kit from ATI but am waiting for the cross rails to come back into stock.

I can add that straton sent me this mail:

During operation of Straton lights, electrical crackling or high levels of white noise may occur.
In many cases, this effect is related to so-called "coil beeping", which is inherent in the design of today's high-performance electronic products and is not a hardware defect.
Coil whine is the result of electronic components vibrating at certain frequencies when current flows through these components, resulting in an audible sound that is perceptible to the human ear.
The symptoms may be more pronounced in products with many microchips and coils and may be more noticeable when operating the product in a quiet environment.
This is not a hardware defect. The product operates within specification and within acoustic tolerance. There is no effect on the performance of the product.

How does coil beeping occur? Why does it occur? Can it be prevented?

Coil whine refers to an audible noise that can occur when an electric current flows through electromagnetic coils. While with other products the noise/beeping is drowned out by fan noise, it can be perceived as annoying, especially with fanless devices.
The cause is a physical process. Electromagnetic coils are used as inductors or transformers. When electric current flows, they begin to vibrate. At certain frequencies, these vibrations/oscillations become audible noises, which can manifest themselves as beeping/humming. This is perceived very differently from person to person and can be observed in many modern high-performance devices.
ATI Aquaristik does as much as possible to minimize the effects of coil whine in our products, but like any manufacturer, we cannot completely eliminate this phenomenon.

The ATI Star Line mounting rails are sold out so I haven’t been able to put the lights up. That said, I do have my old rockscape sitting around (I recently swapped out all my rocks
) so I did some basic testing.

1. Spread does not seem as wide as I had expected. I believe someone else mention that these units use different reflectors than the ATI lights. I believe this is the case. The spread in the ATI Stratons seem wider based on the videos on YouTube.

2. Par level is not as high as expected even when turned to 100%. I have seen the Radion XR30 China clones in person and those lights put out massive / blinding levels of par and a beautiful spectrum. I have not been impressed with these ATI clones from a par perspective.

3. I did not do a LED by LED comparison but these lights have a lot of green and red LEDs which I believe are not too useful. The ATI Straton line is currently on their second generation. The second generation has significantly more blue LEDs than the first generation. I assume the LED setup here are based on the first gen ATI Stratons.

I was also surprised they put so many greens in the Kassray fixture. There appear to be a significantly larger portion of greens than even the first generation of straton pros. Does the spectrum look okay visually? I wonder if it'll disco under real-tank conditions.

Can confirm this is true. The power supply brick for my GHL light bar makes coil whine outside of the photoperiod (which seems opposite of most cases) and they say nobody else has reported the issue.

I don’t like the spectrum when all LEDs are put at 100%. Agreed it is a large amount of green!

I get that, aware of this phenomena.

Nobody has yet confirmed or observed that to be the case with these Kassray fixtures.
