ATI Straton LED Light - Comments, Review, PAR, Coverage, Discuss...

I am setting up a new tank, looking seriously at these lights now. Tank is 72"x36"24". 36" front to back. I am thinking I am best off with (3) Straton G2 Pro153. Any thoughts. This is an SPS tank.

Two Pro204 G2 gives the same coverage as three 153s with the future capability to get to a third 204 unit and rotating them 90 degrees for better front to back coverage.

Save money and get two 204s

Well now I'm not sure three 153 or two 204. I'll think about that. Maybe you are right @buruskeee and get two 204 and if I want more light later add another. I guess I am just not sure if the two 204s equal three 153s. I'll take another look at them. I don't know anyone local who has them, so I haven't been able to see the coverage in person.

204 = 24 x 18.5 (two = 48” x 18.5”)
408 total LEDs
240 total blue/violet/uv spectrum LEDs

153 = 18.5 x 18.5 (three = 55.5” x 18.5”)
459 total LEDs
270 total blue/violet/uv spectrum LEDs

There’s about 6” less coverage but I don’t think that’s noticeable, it’s just 3” each side less. The new G2 has heavier blue spectrum (think blue vs pro for radion) so you’ll make tons of par. I make 350 PAR in the “AB+” spectrum 9” under the water surface with 12” high mounting with two units of the OGs.

Two 204s give you the option to add a third and rotate them all 90° if you want serious wall to wall coverage for your tank.

This is the exact plan i settled on. Ordering Two 204 gen 2's and down the road I will add a third if needed.

I think I am going to go with the three G2 153s. I am moving from a Giesemann Spectra 72" MH/T5 fixture, and it was lower PAR in the extremes. I liked having areas that were lower light levels for different coral needs. I think visually the whole tank will look probably the same brightness with the 153s so I should be good.

3 G2 153s is going to be great on this tank. You're gonna love it!

FYI, you can control the middle section and outter sections all individually to lower intensities.

how reliable are the par estimation on the apps? Planning to switch to straton and i dont want to burn my corals. Having those numbers will make the transition easier on the corals

Just read through most of this thread, so when they do finally arrive I will have to hit you guys up for some profiles, gives me a jumping off point.

Definitely keeping these on my radar for the new build. It will be closer to Black Friday before I can buy so hopefully we see plenty of ways to mount them before then.

ATI had some kind of connector that attached to t slot at RAP.

Has anyone seen those for sale yet?

That should be fine for that tank - maybe 4 for good measure since it’s 8 feet long. Long side of the 204 should go front to back to fill that 36” of width.

Thanks. It’s actually not a new tank I have had it for a while, about 8 years. I have been through some rough issues over the past few years, walked in one morning to see a bit of white skeleton on one of the corals came back from work and half the tank was dead, still have no idea what caused it. I also had some green turf like algae that I was sort of keeping under control, after the crash I lost quite a bit of interest and it got the better of me. After that I was never able to get it out of the tank, real nasty stuff. I spoke to all the experts on getting rid of it…..nothing worked. About a year ago I tore the tank apart threw out all the rock and rebuilt it. I am finally starting to get my mojo back and am looking forward to once again having an amazing tank.
How I hate this hobby. lol

What I will probably do is get 3 to start and add another one in a few months unless someone can offer me a great Memorial day deal (feel free to dm me) otherwise works out to about $8000.00. Those are my dims; ATI recommended 3 204s (pro v1). I did buy a 4th bc it was liquidated. I have one pro 204 running centered on a 70g (to see if the 36” width coverage in action). At 11” above water I get par on the sides of the 36” but on the fringe of suitable for sps. Plenty of par 3-6” in on each side for sps.

Love the light- now to get the tank set up….

Yeah 3 should be fine especially if it’s not grown out yet. Gives you cushion on the price to wait to buy the fourth. Pricey lights but well worth it! Quality it top notch and over built. I have the first gen but would easily upgrade to the newest third gen without hesitation if I wanted to new lights.

Yeah…these lights are worth it. It looks like I’m lacking some coverage in the middle. I’ll need to take a look at that.
