I hear ya. But haven’t Straton gen 2 pros been out for a while in Europe though? Sucks it takes so long for their stuff to get to us in the US.

He is my rep. They have no ETA on stocking. Only an estimate of 30-60 days, but it’s not confirmed.

Still, I’m not a fan of the changes. What made the Stratons so superior is their overall footprint and density of LEDs. Now they stripped them down and made them smaller to show a nicer sticker cost (even though they were overall cheaper than other setups you’d have to add light bars to like XR30). They won’t have the same T5 like coverage. At least the Flex are still available.

Our second batch is now up for preorder. We expect to receive them within a month, hopefully sooner.

@SaltwaterAq or @ATI North America I have the original Stratons with the ceiling hanging mounting setup now

If I replaced them with the Straton X could I just swap them out directly? Or do I need a new mounting setup?

you need a new mounting set up, but your tank is already well covered , why would you change?

Spread does not equal coverage. When you have colonies of acros that shadow, spread won’t help light get to them. As they say in automotive - there’s no replacement for displacement.

For LPS and mixed reefs, the X will be fine. Just be aware, for those that want to eliminate shadowing, you’ll have to add light bars to the X as you would for the Radions. The 153 and 204 didn’t need that for 24” and 30” depth tanks respectively.

I’m not sure why folks see the marketing of “great spread” and immediately think it would still create all the angles a bigger fixture would. There’s a reason why T5 was added to halides, because of the shadowing. Point sources will always have shadowing issues because light can only travel in a straight line (let’s not talk about nuance here, just in general).

The Stratons were basically T5 coverage with halide PAR. It was the best concept and execution of LED lights we’ve seen thus far.

You speak about lights you not have or tried I had the first straton 's, those are better and I just replaced 6 Reefi + leds bars with 4 straton. Results better coverage and big electricity saving.

I assume you are saying the Straton X are better in coverage? Do you have acros shadowing each other? How will light physically bend around to light acros that are shaded?

I agree, the 14” Straton x will create more light angles than the reefi units which are physically smaller.

Please explain how the smaller X (which already have been proven with par readings to have a hotter hot spot in the middle compared to previous generation), creates more light angles than a bigger 18.5x18.5” 153 unit which also has more LEDs packed into the unit.

Where do you get this statement '' proven to have a hot spot in the middle ''?? Check how they are built, they are built to avoid the hot spot previous model had . And I can not confirm the hot spot in my mesurements but I will check again. I not see shadowing for now and coverage is better than with the previous models that were bigger. And if you check the part with the leds is not a lot smaller than the previous model, the size they loose comes mainly from the boards that was larger before. How they do I can, it have to do with the disposition and the new lens system. But if you want perfect coverage you need to go back to t5. I think no led will beat them, t5 are infinit light points with the full spectrum going in infinite directions and that hit the corals from all angles. Even if you cover all tank with led you will unfortunately not reach that effect, for this t5 are just better.
