My favorite fish, so intelligent and funny. I still want to get a Black Cap Basslet and of course a Candy Basslet.
Swissguard Basslet (Liopropoma rubre)

Nice looking Swissguard. I have been contemplating one of these guys for a while, but DD shows they are aggressive. Do you have any other fish in there with them?

Yes they are aggressive, he ate a whole peppermint shirmp (adult). I keep him alone in a separate tank, you will see them more if they are alone since they are very shy.

Nope, I wish he was a L. carmabi aka Candy basslet. I can get the Swissguards for $35-$40. The Candy for lees than $600, but I would never pay that amount of money for a fish, I prefer to pay for the scuba gear (lessons are free!), and get them myself. I live in Puerto Rico, so these are native fish. Not intended for sale!

cool fish i find it amazing that people pay 1000 dollars for a fish thats just crazy i can justify paying big money for corals because they should grow and maybe someday you will be able to break even with them but a fish has a life expectancy a lot shorter than a piece of coral. None the less good looking fish i really like that photo of the royal gramma

Thanks!
I've never been down there but looking foward to. In order to go to that depths you need to be an expert diver using oxygen (that's really really dangerous!!!) or invest in a re-breather aka trimix.

anyone seen the RED candy basslet? It was in last months (january I believe) fish aquarium international magizine. "Only 3 have been offered for sale in the US." It's pretty insane
As for the swissguard I have one in a 29 gallon reef with an assesor and a barnacle blenny. Both fish beat him up (the blenny he could easly eat but doesn't?) BUT +1 on shrimp. He nailed my peppermint shrimp :( Great fish I love mine.

I too would like to know how they go about it.

Interesting..
Never heard that Swiss Guards were so aggressive. I figured they would defend territory but never heard of them attacking shrimps before.
Good info. to have.

BTW- great looking fish!
