My tub sumps under my tanks in the fish barn all have DIY float switch ATOs in them. Water level stays constant due to that. I just use cheap 5v cat water fountain pumps and the storage tanks are right next to them. Using 5v pumps, I can use a phone charger brick and cheap float switches. Run the negative for the brick through the switch and done. I also use 2 float switches in series for rundundancy. So far I have not had to replace a pump yet. Couple of float switches over the years, but that is it. Think it costs about 15 bucks an ATO from Amazon. Never had to buy a phone brick or usb cable to power the switches/pump. Have a ton of those lol. Especially since most everything is USB C now.

I hadn’t thought about ATOs effect of overall water level. I have the hydros ATO, although it uses an electronic sensor. I wonder if there’s some way I could add in an analog float valve for redundancy’s sake?

That reminds me, I need to figure out what my DIY ATO reservoir will be. Probably will just go with a 5gal bucket hidden in a cabinet next to the tank.

So this is roughly what I’m thinking as far as sump goes layout-wise.

381B8037-FA1F-4347-85E7-F63ED4484431.jpeg

so. Red will be be where the octo-aquatics magnetic filter sock/cup holder will go (thinking cup because add brain makes me think I’ll get lazy on socks).

blue will be where I hang the heaters horizontally.

Green is where I’ll have the extra rock and a platform for my ATS. I’ll have to have it sitting on something an inch or so under the rim of the tote so I have clearance to take out the screen. Ats will then drain down towards the return.

If I do go with another dc pump for the ATS, it’ll be a small one. So what do you all think of either yellow x as far as location.

Also. If I do end up needing a skimmer in addition to the ATS….I’m going to switch to a skimmer with the pump inside the base. I know reef octo is good but man it takes up too much space.

anyway, what do you all think?

also, I’ll be ironing out the details with my local Guru @F i s h y, but I can finally give you all a general idea of what I want to do for my overflow.

as you all know my oceanic has 4 holes drilled in the return box. I’m sure it was intended to have a pair of drains and two return lines but….I like redundancy and quietness. So I’m thinking this:
E903A318-CEC6-49EC-97AB-DCE4379C5C94.jpeg

with a second durso drain. Thoughts? First time plumbing and I intend to do it in a well thought out and effective way. So input welcome!

All I have to say is add brain is just as bad with cups as socks. Can you do a roller by any chance?

down the line yeah. But not anytime soon. So I’m going to have to make do for a while

So here (for anyone who might view this build later and hopefully find it helpful) are some pictures of where I want to mount my RODI. I’m at a bit of a loss as to how to tie it in here as it’s not your standard sink sort of deal. Also, forgive the clutter. The majority of the stuff around there is stuff for my build. Anyway here ya go

Installs in 5 minutes. This is what feeds my rodi in the house off the 1/2” pex line for the water heater feed.

are you imagining that being put in where I circled?

Either there or one of the vertical ones. Is the pex 1/2” or 5/8”?

You could also tap into the water heater feed. Can you get a pic of the top of the water heater?

Sure can. I’m at the Indianapolis zoos Halloween thing. I’ll get it and post once home

I realized I forgot to take any pics of the three cylinder tanks the zoo had. One of which had a massive flame hawk. Kellie decided they look like Dr. Suess fish. Can’t say she’s wrong. And now I will have a Dr. Suess fish lol.

(Happy wife happy life. Happy wife happy life. Happy wife happy life….) ;):cool:

Steve I missed your question about the pex size. I don’t know. Best way to measure?

@fishguy242 i have studied the artifact and was able to record the strange markings present. Could you see if you could translate for me? (That sounds cooler than I don’t know what this means, right? :p)
