Hello everyone,

I am going to be upgrading my biocide 32 to start growing SPS and clams. I am looking at two options and could use some advice.

Option1: Remove the hood and buy a toplid for it. Then add a led light to it to grow the desired corals.

Option 2: Remove the stock lights and upgrade to the Steves LED light kit for it.

Does anyone have experience with the Steve LEDs? Are they good? Do they produce nice color and shimmer? Does anyone have a light they recommend for this size tank and what I want to grow? Just let me know.

Thank you,
Rob

I think you would be good either way but if you’re removing the hood you should get an ATO.

Yeah good point. Didn't think of that. Thanks for that. Im hoping someone can tell me about Steves led because that would be the easiest route I think.

I’ve heard and read great things about them, I personally would go that route. They are reasonably priced and I believe go up in price as they go up in par. I just took my Biocube down after almost 4 1/2 years to upgrade about 2 weeks ago.

Your tanks are looking great. I am doing same thing. Upgraded to 150 but decided to put biocube in my office and go full SPS tank with it. Ive heard Steves led would be good for it and actually make the tank a little cooler from stock lighting. I can add an ATO to my hydros ($100), add a toplid ($200), then a light (????), but that would be more expensive then just adding the Steve led kit ($379) and not have to do all of the other. I am looking for good shimmer and good coloration of the corals, but not a blue tank all the time..

I have Steve’s LEDs on my 32 Biocube they’ve been on there about seven years and I absolutely love them!

I have a steves Led conversion for the red sea 130d and its awesome. I really keeping the full hood in place.
I know this is an older thread, but i just acquired a Red Sea 130D with an LED Retro Kit installed. I didn't know what I was looking at, but after doing some research, I did find out that it is a Steve's LED Retro Kit with the Storm X Controller. SO my questions are what kind of par ratings can I expected out of them. It is a single puck with 15 leds on it. I can manually turn them up and they are freaking bright, so I do not think I would have any trouble at all providing any type of coral adequate lighting. Just wanted to find out more information on the controller and stuff. I will probably upgrade the Fans in the hood to something more quieter, tank is in the bedroom so they can tend to be a little noisy at night. I am just stoked that I don't have to spend $$$ on a light. If I can figure out the programming on the controller and set up my lighting configuration. This will be golden. Was just planning on doing a softy/LPS/Goni tank.... Any information would be greatly appreciated it. Just finished the cycle and have some fish in the tank.

Im running the kit at 45% and that's been plenty for sps Up top and lps and softies down low. I dont know if your timer and controller is setup the same as mine, but i have the controller set to 45% on all channels and the mechanical controller and manual dimme knows to control time and color mix.
