Hello everyone,
I need some help identifying what might be ich on my blue hippo tang. I noticed some spots last night however they’re flush white spots on the top of her head, and raised bumps on her belly similar to what I could describe as razor burn on a human. She also has some scratches or scrapes by her tail possibly from flashing but she does lay flat under the rocks at night so could be from this. Tank size is 75 gallons, Parameters are ammonia 0, nitrate 0, nitrite 0, ph 8.2, salinity 1.025, temp 78. There have been no dramatic fluctuations in any parameters lately and I’ve had the tang since about February with no issues and nothing new has been added to the tank since last month. Tank mates include 1 baby porcupine puffer, 2 clownfish, 2 pincushion urchins, 1 cleaner shrimp, 1 fire shrimp, 1 mandarin goby, and 1 chocolate chip sea star. Tank is over a year old. I just need some help identifying what this may be so I can properly treat it without taking out any tank mates. She is currently still eating great and behaving fine.

Welcome to Reef2Reef!

Sorry, I can't see any spots in the photos.

Treatments with invertebrates in the tank are pretty limited. Praziquantel can be dosed in mixed tanks, that treats flukes, but really, I don't see strong indications that this is a fluke issue.

Jay, see if this helps as I do see dots appearing to be crypto irritants

Yes - those spots could be ich, but the best test is to watch them firsthand and see if the spots come and go and change in number over a day or two....that is a good indication that it is ich, and not some other white spot, like minor scale damage.

The spots have gotten worse and some appear to have turned gray/black. Again no behavioral changes and eating fine. Got
Home from work today and noticed my porcupine puffer has some spots now on his fins. I’ve read that puffers don’t take well to ich treatment or hypo, any other recommendations if I have to treat him?

Puffers are fine in hypo. They also handle coppersafe very well. Ionic copper is what they don’t do well with.
