Just lost a head on my frogspawn colony today, I noticed it’s been closed up for a week now I didn’t think much of it because I just changed lighting but I don’t want it to spread to the rest of my coral what do I do??

Confirmed BJ? Or suspected?? Anyways standard coral troubleshooting needs the perameters!

Alk,Ca,Mag,pH,temp,nutrients
I’ll test when I get home, but anytime I’ve seen brown jelly it happens just like that

brown jelly doesnt just happen "like that", it only affects unhealthy, unhappy, and weak corals. Brown jelly is a result, not a cause.

Do you have brown jelly? A pic in white lights will help, along with parameters.
I don’t have a pic of it with brown jelly the head is just completely dead now so I assume that’s what it is

Did you mean to type 1520 for Mg or was that a typo? Because that's definitely high along with your dKH not that 11.5 is bad, but you have to know how to manage that Vs the usual 7-8.

Did you check pH or nitrates yet?

I agree 1500 is pretty raised. Although i run my tanks at 1350-1450 so not horrific.

I would personally slowly (cannot stress that enough) lower the alk as 11.5 is skirting the danger zone.

Completely agree!

You can run the Mg higher just like Ca and dKH you just gotta know that your playing with fire and things will go wrong way faster!

How would I go about lowering my alk? And my mg? I don’t dose or anything so I’m not sure why they would be so high I just do my weekly water change

What salt mix are you using?

What test kit did you use?

Is your Mg consistently in that range or is this an anomaly?

Can you provide pics under white lighting? Without pics, sounds like polyp bailout which often occurs with euphyllia due to stress.

Yup a little more info is needed before we start makin guesses!

So if you could grab us some pictures of the coral that would be great.

Also:

The type of salt you use

Nutrient levels NO3/PO4

Anything besides RO that you toss into your tank?

The iodine was a good call but im afraid if it is BJD that doesnt do much...

If its polyp bailing... then we gotta start looking at the tank as a whole

No it doesn't affect just unhealthy corals. Culprit is a pathogen called arcobacter. It is capable to kill perfecly health corals.

Red Sea test kit and I use reef crystals salt and no it’s never been that high but I also haven’t tested in months

Do you have anyway to verify the results? Either another kit, and unopened set of reagents, a friend, or LFS?

Also as asked above some photos will help along with the remainder of the results for testing.
