Can I have any tangs?

And just to clarify, I had a coral beauty for about 8 years.
Never touched a coral but was the most aggressive fish I've ever had.

Yes you can, at least 4-5 of them. Shown below is a 135g I had and there was 11 tangs, though not advised

I notice a copperband in your tank. How does it fare at feeding time? Does it compete well with the other fish at feeding time?
The readon I'm asking is that I would like to add a CBB to my tank but the blue hippo tang, lemon damsel percula clown eat like a vacuum cleaner and I'm worried if the CBB ( provided it eats ok at lfs) would successfully compete with them at feeding time. They are 2-21/2" . My tank is a 46 gal bowfront with a prob water vol of 44gal including the refugium, canister filter and sqimmer. The CBB at the lfs is about same size. Any thoughts based on your experience?

My "strategy", which has been working for the last quarter of a century, is to acquire all the tangs I can get. When they fight (which they will) I'll build up a case with my wife to get another tank to separate them. When they're happy and outgrow the tank, I'll build yet another case to getting a larger system. This pattern repeats until I can acquire all the tangs I ever want! So far, I have the following:
150gal: achilles, yellow, blue, purple
450gal: yellow (3), purple (3), blue (3), sailfin (2), naso (2), gem

Essentially, I'm collecting tangs like Labubu's Still looking for koi, clown, sohal, kole, LT, etc...

Good luck with your tangs - it's a hobby, have fun! I've found that tangs do well together when you add them as juvenile and together.

Good strategy until your wife says she wants a bigger house because the house is full of aquariums. Then your tang budget goes to the mortgage, which honestly some tangs, especially, koi are are mortgage payment.

Whenever I go pick out a fish, I ask myself will this fish be able to have a good life in my aquarium. If I know its going to grow fast and become very large I don't buy it.

While tang are beautiful, they're one of my favorites that I can't wait to see in my aquarium, I know that I can't provide enough space in my existing aquarium.

I read Idiots Guide to Saltwater Aquariums in 2000. One of the things the author talked about was will your fish be happy in the aquarium? They come from the ocean to our aquarium in most cases. The least we can do is provide a good home for them where they can thrive.

I have a purple and Tomini in my 4' 150. There is some aggression between the 2 but nothing life threatening. But for some reason the Tomini hates the Starry blenny. He goes after it every chance it can. Im planning on relocating both eventually because of the aggression twords the leopard wrasses and I want to get away from larger fish to smaller "busy" fish.

Just back from Oahu. I gotta say, a group of Achilles tangs is absolutely stunning. Also saw a naso with the longest streamers I've ever seen. Also saw a unicorn tang that was way WAY more colorful than any of the grey ones I've seen in aquariums. That was cool.

My scopus and Bristle tooth are best of buddies now and have become the boys in the hood and kill most of the new fish I put in! Maybe I can attach an acclimation tank. Thinking of getting a one-spot fox face

Mine did the same until I added a Foxface.

Have you tried those acrylic mirrors and put them onto the side of the aquarium?

A monster tank with some light tidal swell flow would be very cool with Achilles tangs. I notably only saw small groups of Achilles usually alone on a group of rocks, whereas I tracked a school of about 200 convicts and orange shoulders (~100 each) traveling together from rock to rock picking away at the algae. Also notable was that each large rock seemed to have its own pygmy angel trying unsuccessfully to defend the rock against the school of tangs. That was entertaining.
