Can I have any tangs?

A Tomini in a 3' but as other have said I would not keep it there for long.

No, absolutely not. I respect your experience in the industry, but I wholeheartedly and emphatically disagree with you here. This is a Petco mentality and not responsible advice at all, IMO.

Can you? Sure. Throw whatever you want in there. Should you. No.

Nutrition is always important for good health and combatting aggression amongst tangs, but part of proper husbandry is being good stewards to the specimens in our charge. These are living creatures and housing them in appropriately sized enclosures is paramount to longevity. The stress caused by doing this will stress them to the point of near constant disease.

The only tang that would possibly live a long and healthy life would be a Tomini, and even then, in that size enclosure it would be a demon.

You're better than this, Vette.
Apparently you dont know tangs or under=estimate tangs. I know over 20 persons with multiple tangs in a 90 and happy. This was a 50 breeder tank (below) with a kleini butterfly, yellow and a tomini tang

together well over a year. Of course we dont put 6" tangs in such tanks.

Sorry that's too small for tangs! Just because some people have done it does not mean it should be done. Dwarf angels are awesome, a flame is insanely colorful and if you have a centerpiece fish shouldn't it be a wow fish? The bristletooths are.. Meh.

Other suggestions for fish that would be happy in a smaller tank and will show you great personality too!
Tilefish - weird and personable fish
Naoko fairy wrasse - color, energy, and fun
Pearly jawfish
Basslets - royal gramma
Blennies
Pygmy waspfish - really cool fish.
Dusky wrasse
Radiant wrasse
Leopard wrasse

A yellow and a Tomini in a 90 is absolutely fine. 4 or 5 tangs in a 55 is not. Let alone any Acanthurus sp.

If I didn't know tangs, we wouldn't be having this discussion, Tony. Let's not lower ourselves to the point of snide attacks.

There are things that you or I can do that should never be recommended to others. You're wrong here. Stop dispensing irresponsible advice to novice reefers.

You dont know tangs and are adamant on none being housed in a 55g despite years of many having them in such tanks. Think alone about store displays at smaller size. As I said, its not recommended but can be done. You are insisting a 55 g cant have tangs and you in essence are wrong. Remember 4 or 55 was belief this was a 90 and I told person 1-2 are fine
Also you say 90 is fine- 55g has similar footprint, just 6” thinner and a couple inches in height

It's illegal to keep a donkey in a bathtub in Arizona.

Why? I dunno, but it's because someone did it successfully once.

I think the discussion here is that just because it has been done doesn't mean it should be done. A couple of success stories doesn't make it a good norm to follow.

I for one will not keep a donkey in my bathtub.

How long did Seaworld house Orcas in little more than Olympic-sized swimming pools?

I should drop the mic right there, but since you want to persist...

The height difference between a 55 and 90 is irrelevant. The width, in this case, makes a huge difference for large, incredibly active swimmers that need to turn.

As far as store displays go, which I know you know, those specimens are either 1) sold quickly; or 2) die, despite the high levels of copper. Unfortunately, with regard to #1, that sale is often made by irresponsible LFS owners that pretend to know what they're doing by telling people it's okay to house them in enclosures that are too small. That would never be done to make a sale, right? Right, Tony?

But, hey- they own an LFS and have been doing this for years, right? Right, Tony?

The sad thing here is that when bad advice is freely dispensed to new reefers by individuals that seem to be credible, it leads to disaster.

"I don't know why my tank crashed- I did everything that <insert name of person with a lot of badges here> told me to do."

"I don't know why my fish keep dying- I did exactly what <insert name of person with a lot of badges here> told me to do."

Putting aside for a moment the senseless loss of life due to completely irresponsible husbandry, how much aquarist frustration and heartbreak do you think this is responsible for in this hobby?

How many tank break downs and people leaving the hobby do you think this accounts for?

How about attacks on our hobby and industry from animal right activists and well meaning, but largely ignorant celebrities that need a cause to champion?

Do you think that, by doubling down here, you're doing any of us in this community any favors?

Pontificating because you have a pathological need to be right isn't doing you any favors, either. Don't bother answering any of those questions, because I'm done with you. Think on them, though and please be better.

You law-abiding squares 🙄
Live a little!

You square 🙄
I almost caught a baby donkey out dove and quail hunting several years ago. I didn't realize how wild wild donkeys actually are. I thought he was gonna kill me!

Why do they allow dogs in Apartments or in concrete yards without natural substrate? A dog in the wild will wander for miles every day looking for fire hydrants and other dogs to chase.

They hate the bath tub! Dogs in the bath tub is torture.

I know why the caged bird sings.

Anyway, I'll take both sides on this. A Tomini isnt a fish that will jet around back and forth, at least mine doesnt. So, a 4 foot tank would probably be ok, though the width of a 55 isnt too forgiving. I would never put a yellow tang in anything under a 100g, preferably 5 feet. I think the magic number for multiple tangs living good lives is 5-6 feet of length and 120+ gallons, for the long run at least.

You probably have either a dog or a donkey in your bathtub?

I'm outraged, and will be reporting this to the tang police, the AZ pd, and the modz. Inflammatory posts are not allowed in paradise!

We have just two parakeets in a ~2.5' x 2.5' x 4' parrot cage and they just sit on the perches and sing along with me like whenever I yell at the neighbors or the misses. They also remind me to dump the thawing fish food when I forget to put it in the tank (The last little bit of this post is true. The rest isn't all that much.) 😷

This argument is so ridiculous. Does anyone honestly think a tang is the best centerpiece fish for a 55??
No I have no clue why this is even a debate. Im astounded by the advice that was given here by very experianced reefers

I'd like to talk more about this donkey in a bathtub. My kids are out at their grandparents' for a couple of weeks and their bathtub is free. Would ~2 weeks in the bathtub be fine, knowing that I will be upgrading to a hot tub later?

I believe that anything under 2 weeks doesn't count as anything more than "camping"?
