So I woke up today and one of the fleshy green parts of my candy cane coral is completely gone. Does anyone know the reason behind this??

That means it’s dead.

And the remaining polyp looks on its way out with its receding flesh band.

Please post your parameters.

I’m suspecting high phosphates alongside lower alk

Yes, the head on the right is dead/the polyp bailed out. The left one is retracted and clearly unhappy. Either bad parameters, too much flow or light, or something physically bothering it. For the last option, crabs are common culprits, including large hermit crabs.

Well nitrates and phosphates should definitely not be zero.

That’s definitely a problem.

Do you have salinity calcium and magnesium?

My tank is only like 2 months old, there is GHA in my tank snagging all of my nutrients but right before I was going to dose my tank for phosphates and nitrates I read it’s bad to do that to new tanks.

Its not dead but rather receded and can be due to:
Low calcium
Too high flow
Elevated Phosphate
Lack of feeding (I feed mine 2-3x a week with mysis shrimp right after lights go out)

Man U are a life saver, my heart stopped, it’s one of my FAVORITE corals.

I do feed them some oyster feast, However I only feed them like once a week, I’ll start feeding them way more often (2-3 times a week) and see how they go.

Do you have any tips on my phosphate and nitrate issue? My tanks new and the GHA snags it all, I’m worried abt dosing bc I’ve see people say “let the tank naturally do its thing and fight the GHA and naturally increase the phos and nitrates.”

What is your phos and nitrate level?
With gHA - Is your tank at or near a window?

Feeding it alone will not solve the problem.

Your nutrients are bottomed out and that should be addressed first.

Trumpets will thrive even without feeding

Ive asked on levels also - No need to quote me. Ive seen them worse than this and bounce back into a colony

Yeah, thats an issue as I though phosphate played a role.

How are you testing phosphate level??
Increased feedings will increase po4 but likely not effectively. If running any GFO or other media, remove for now

(Top)
Seachem Matrix
Seachem Purigen
Poly-Fil
Sponge
(Bottom)
