Captive-bred flame angelfish?

I was perusing LiveAquaria and ran across this. Did any of you know that there are captive-bred flame angelfish available? How cool is that?

It's neat they are making progress in captive breeding. What's not neat is that they sell them for 4x what a normal flame goes for, also the lack of color sucks as well. That fish and any I've seen from that program are all pale and lack that deep rich red color a wild flame has. The people who captive breed saltwater really need to re-consider their price points if they are ever going to be successful.

I have had a captive bred flame for 6 months and its been a model citizen so far with my soft corals, I also have a captive bred coral beauty which i have had just under a year and same with that re corals. They are both great little fish

They colour up as they grow, my flame was washed out and practically transparent in certain lights when I got it, it's now a much more vivid red and looks great, the coral beauty looks way more vibrant than wild caught I have seen recently, I'm very happy with both of them

That's good to know. I was assuming it was related to something missing from the diet in captivity.

bought mine from DD a month ago, its tiny, but because its so small compared to other fish, it gets ignored by my tang. Picking on rocks for algae at first but now learning to eat pellets and frozen from other fishes.

I'm no fish plastic surgeon but it could also be that since they are captive bred we get them earlier in their life cycles versus what is collected in the wild, causing a difference in appearance?

Here's a video of the CB Hawaiian flames we had received. We were the exclusive retailers of this batch of larger CB flame angels. We are also the exclusive retailer of the next batch of CB Multicolor angels as well.
The Flames and multicolor angels are bred in Hawaii.
We are working on raising our own Bellus angels as well.
Pricing is a reflection of success rates. We're still working long hours and expending a lot of resources for 3 months or so just to raise 10-30 fish at a time. Even at the high price, the breeders are not even making minimum wage for their efforts usually. As we improve the protocol for raising fish, prices will come down. :)

The largest hurdle has been conquered (successfully breeding them in captivity)! I'm SO glad to see significant advances breeding many common marine fish.
