Circle of life ;Hilarious
Totally. I prefer chicken wing bones for my CaRx. If a little hot sauce makes its way into the water, Jesus do my corals color up.

Gotta be better than mild. I’ve been watching Hot Ones on YouTube lately. And I’ve been making my own hot wings as a result. No sissy wings!

I snuck that part in at the end ;)

How did I do? that was 10 months of trial and error and research in one post!

You did a great job! I think you covered everything there was to cover. With that wonderful write up even I might be able to have a nice Goni! ;)

Just get an Aussie Goni and don’t subject yourself to the torture that Magellan has.

Magellan sold his waters soul to the devil which explains his results.

That’s the idea! There really isn’t that much information out there about this specific species, but it all agrees that feeding is important.

and as @living_tribunal implies, sacrifices to Poseidon may be required!

To get back to the importance of lower flow for the Goni, it got moved today. After adding a powerhead for the first time in a year...(yes @ScottR you read that right!) I just wasn’t comfortable with how irritated the Goni was. Maybe it would have adjusted after a couple weeks, or maybe not...and it seemed to have its worst day today rather than getting better (it’s been almost a week now since the Acro and wavemaker went in the tank) so I moved it to the back corner in a much lower flow spot. Unfortunately it won’t be nearly as prominent from the front of the tank anymore, but hopefully I can continue to keep a fully mixed reef in my nano.

this also makes room for a new zoa rock and maybe a new addition or two as well. (@living_tribunal they will be LPS!)

Thanks for all the great information. I'm not sure where mine originally comes from, I went back to look at the description when I bought it and it says "Homegrown". Right now it is near the top of the rocks so getting lots of light, but at the back so low flow. It's open and fully extended all day... but it just hasn't seemed to grow at all. I've had it for four months and seen very little change. Maybe I'll try moving it to the bottom.

I feed it reef roids, but probably not often enough. I also target feed so my cleaner shrimps usually goes after it. I should just start broadcast feeding, but I'm trying to lower my phosphates and I would think I would need to use more in broadcast feeding verse target feeding... but maybe that's not accurate.

I looked through all 8,000,000 pictures I have of my tank... I think I know have more pictures of my tank than my kids... and I don't have a single good one of. I have picture where you can see it in the background. Like I said its on the back of a rock so I kinda forget about it, poor budy.

My cleaner shrimp has made me want to go the butter and frying pan route more than once! He is 100000% the reason I don’t target feed. Looked at some pictures on your thread, is it possible that you have an alveopora? The main difference seems to be that Goni’s have 24 little polyps on their tentacles and Alveopora have 12. This site has some good information, but take it with a grain of salt. The line “phosphates: 0. Phosphates are the worst of all and all corals hate them” was somewhat concerning!

I read this thread a while ago (months ago)
I thought I was following it but I guess I wasn't.

Glad I ran across it again.
Following.
I sometimes don’t even get notifications when people post in my own thread! As you can see I have a fan club ;)
