I saw a pic of a clown goby in another thread which reminded me of this tale.
:D

I had, what I called, a $1,000 fish. That is to say, this yellow clown goby ate/killed $1,000 worth of SPS frags. They're known to nibble on SPS (nesting to lay eggs, I believe), which is fine in a tank w/ lots of SPS. But in a predominantly Zoanthid tank w/ only a few high end SPS frags... And with a particular fish that seems to eat more SPS then I have ever seen a clown goby eat... Well... disaster.
:D

So, time to catch the little bugger out of a 210G tall tank. Ugh... Fish trap? Naw, too shy and skittish. Drain the tank? Ugh.

One cool trait of these fish is that they 'perch' on SPS during the day and at night. So, I waited till the lights went out and I started a syphon using a 1" tube from the tank to the sump with the sump end going into a filter sock.

:D Foreshadowing, eh?

If you've ever done this before, you know a 1" hose moves a LOT of water, fast in this type of situation!

There he is, perched on a (dead) IceFire... Quickly zoom in w/the syphon hose. Dang it, missed him. Where is he? Can't find him. 10 minutes later, I give up for the night and break the siphon. Then I thought, "did I really miss him?" Check the filter sock, there he is. Turns out I got him on the first strike. Dyson has nothing on me.
:D

I then tried to sell him back to the LFS for $1,000. They didn't bite. So I traded him for a peppermint shrimp.

The end!

HAHA sounds just like my story! I got two of them and they were stripping off parts of my sps. I used a tube like you did. They hid in a hole and I siphoned them right out of it. LOL!

BayCorals: yup! That's what this shop charged for my peppermint, because I wasn't budging on that $1,000 value on the clown goby.
:D

Rev nailed it. I was going to say that a Blue Ring Octopus is cute too... ;)
