Hello, does anyone have any suggestions on how to help my Cespitularia. It was growing beautifully but for the last couple days it seems to have slumped over and shrunken massively.

Parameters:
PH 8.1
Salinity 1.025
Calcium 410
Magnesium 1320
Alk 8.9
Temp 78

nah its on its way out...

When its that bent over and shriveld its burning itself and will melt away.
I have not been able to save any of them once they get that way.

You tank probably had a something die, or something bad get in its water column.

But yeah sorry OP, if it bounces back, consider yourself very lucky...

What i did in hopes to save mine, which i failed, was i trimed what look like a healthy section of it, and put it in a rubble pile hoping it would grow out again.

But, the uncut portion melted in a week, and the trimmed portion never took foot hold so it died as well.

Very strange. I only have clown fish and the zoa as the only other inhabitant. I run a wee bit of carbon in case of the zoa but other than that everything is fine. Frustrating.

yeah, i know that feeling.

I even had a Wada Koji next to mine that is still doing absolutely great.
I had no idea why the last one i had died.
But i can tell you, once its shirveled like that, unless its something that lasts only a few days, its at the end b4 it melts.

Is that an AI Prime light? Just one? I just checked your other posts and this is on a 90 gallon tank? If you have only one on a 90 gallon then unfortunately its not enough light, it would explain why its melting. The zoa's are also having some sort of issue.

I have two 16HD’s.
Would you still recommend more light?

I would suggest to rent a par meter from your LFS that way you can know for sure. They are not very strong lights and I feel you have the setting a bit low. Personally I would want more watts but it’s really just guesswork a par meter gives you an actual number to work with that way you know if you need more or less. Good luck

I got a tiny frag of this about 6 mos ago. Its right under a 400w MH and gets blasted every 4 minutes by about 20 gallons from a carlson surge.

I've never had one of these before. Their beautiful in the surge. Not colorful but flowy. So relaxing. It grows like paddles off the side and they grab onto whatever they can and stick. Then a new sprout forms. A couple of the sprouts, I moved to a different location and they died. I still think we know very little about corals. Sometimes we can keep them alive and, really, we dont know why. I listed to podcasts of coral farmers. They'll have 5 different tanks, all same methods, and in one they can't keep certain corals. Others, no lrob.

I have a Cespitularia that was doing well but it just stopped expanding. Most other corals are doing great and grow well, zoas, mushrooms, toadstools, Capnella, Monticap. Only the Xenia is growing slowly and this one shrinks. These two should be easy but not in my tank.

My cespitularia is growing crazy and my xenia all just melted. No idea why. All other corals are popping, everything from plate corals and months to leathers are doing great. I like the pumping of the xenia- too bad.
