Choosing a Tang!

i have a 150g only 4 feet long and 24" deep and 28" high. i am trying to find a nice tang to graze on some of the algea in my tank, i want a atlantic blue but hard time finding one. any suggestions on other tangs?

Atlantic Blue's can get very aggressive from what I understand......Kole Tang, Blue Eyed Kole Tang, Chocolate Tang would be nice choices.

Blue hippo or a yellow tang would do just fine in that size of a tank, Four foot long will give them alot of room to go back and forth.

Dont get a powder blue....even though they are beautiful, they are agressive as hell. Mine chases everyone and everything in the tank.

i have a few tangs in mine, call the tang police if need too,LOL

i have a yellow, blue, tomino, scopas and all are good citiznes... my kole(favorite) jumped into overflow and stressed himself to death

i had an atlanitic blue until my tank crashed, was definetly one of my favorite tangs. ive gone through a bunch, only had trouble with clown tangs, vlamingi tangs, and doctor tangs. ive seen alot of people keep vlamingis in their reef but ive had 2 so far go nuts on my lps. now all i have is a purple tang, hes pretty chill too though, keeps to himself

I think a bristletooth and a zebrasoma would go well in there. I have a powder blue in my 150, and he's kind of neurotic.

I've always liked zebrasomas in tanks less than 6 feet. Lots of nice choices too (Purple, Yellow, Black Longnose, $$$ Gem $$$).

I would go with something other than the blue hippo i had a blue hippo and all it did was lay in my cap and swim around once in a while really ticked me off. I bought a dish that i wanted to be an active swimmer. I then picked up a yellow and he is awesome. I also had a powder blue with him for a while till i had a huge temp swing while on vacation and lost him to ich. He wasn't very aggressive at all though. Just look around their are tons of different tangs out there.

I have a Red Sea Sailfin in mine and I love it, I have always kept Sailfins but never a Red Sea. After having this guy I won't get another regular Sailfin again.

+1 on the bristletooth. Get a yellow eye kole or a convict.

Along with the bristletooth- Lavender Tangs are really pretty when they mature as well

I've had a convict, very cool fish. Great color variation from most other fish. Never picked on any other fish in the tank.

I did, however, just have to get rid of a Kole tang that I had for 6+ months. He was fine for the majority of the time, but started becoming very aggressive. When I saw him chase down my Tail Spot Blenny (who is like the most passive fish in the world) I had enough. After I gave him away, my Tail Spot Blenny was literally swimming circles around the tank for the next couple days, something he wasn't able to do, but I never noticed. Now, he's out and about all the time.

I do like and own/ed powder brown,red sea sailfin(desardini),hippo,and vlamingi. All are great fish but vlamingi tangs,as i read, start out as herbivores when babies and as they age they become more carnivorous...on the other hand my red sea sailfin grazes all the time!

I would stick with one of the bristletooth tangs.
Kole, Cheveron, and the likes. They are good cleaners and less problematic in regards to aggression.

I can speak from personal knowledge!
In the process of hooking up another tank to move my Clown tang into since he has become very aggressive to all the other fish in my tank except my mandrain.

I have a 8ft tank and he still swims lap after lap. They need a HUGE tank IMO.

PS- I'll never have another one again. Just don't think we can house them correctly unless you own the Monterrey Aquarium.

I know a few people who have kept them i just think they need a big 72 long tank with a ton of flow. I mean its like putting some one with a PHD in nuro surgery as a school nurse. They arnt ment to be there lol. They need more then what they have to offer they just can be confined and in low flow.
