Hello everyone in reef land, Chris here, long time listener of all things reef and a first time contributor! This poor reef has moved 3 times in the last 6 months before my wife and I finally got settled in our new home, and miraculously there is living coral under that mess of hair algae. Its a pretty low tech set up but i have been slowly "upping the ante" with the blessing from my wife of course.
the current hardware is;
1) a hang on back that i modded as a refugium / filter media.
2) vortech mp10
3) Nanobox led
4) cobalt neo therm.
6) appx. 17 gallon aqua japan low iron tank
7) vertex ro/di filter
to be added;
1) 40 gallon sump
2) sicce 2.5 return pump
3) reef octopus bh50 skimmer
4) kessil h160
5) xaqua in out flow tank drain and return.
I would love to add a dosing pump, i have been manually dosing the aquaforest 3 part and it seems to be working well when i have been able to give the tank the attention it deserves.
I have always wanted to add a refugium sump, and again, with my wifes blessing I am going to add a 40 gallon sump underneath the counter of my 15 gallon display.
so initially i was going to pick the rocks clean of hair algae, but in the name of science i think i will just leave the hair algae and let chaetomorpha and the kessil h160 abate the display algae and document to see how long it takes.
thanks for checking out my thread, i think my next stop is aquarium photography thread! aquarium photography is hard! haha
Here is what the tank looked like before it was neglected.
